What is wrong with my RBTA?

Not too apparent under the day lighting but under the actinic lighting it glows neon orange and green. Seems odd because it used to be the typical brownish red color. Yes it is still holding on tight even as I adjusted the flow around it to see if it was. Good sign?

Yes, it still has enough energy to hold on.... It's really bad if it falls off and don't reattach it self. I would leave it be... You want it to stay put and recover. If it's moves on its own let it... But try not to intervene, and cover your power heads or maybe turn them off... You don't want to wake up to a chopped anemone

I thought so, well that's good at least. I'll cover the powerheads as well.

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried feeding it some mysis today but it's mouth just hangs open. I have it under a Current USA LED strip light. I'll try with the pictures again.

That's your problem. Those lights aren't near enough light even with both blues and whites at 100% for anemones or even most LPS. They will work for most softies but still not near enough light.

So what should I do?

While this can be true, and I'm not a advocate for that light in the long run, it is adequate for a bta in smaller tanks.

*** of course this is predicated on you having the current orbit marine LED unit. Not just strip lights ***

What size tank do you have the bubble tip in?

Anything bigger than 20 gal really needs a better light to sustain coral/nems in the long run.

I don't know Current USA lighting, I know the name but never owned a fixture... But in the wild nems sit very high in the reef.... They get there lion share of energy from something called zooenthilya, a sugary type film in short. This is what gives nems there color and also its what gives them most of there energy. This "bacteria" populates with the use of light... Nems are mostly photosynthetic, I have heard of people never feeding a nem in captivity, but it takes a high out out fixture.

If money is an issue get the Chinese LED's that are sold on Ebay for about $95 shipped. They are plenty strong and will cover a 24x24 area but are easily good for a 30" length. Start them out low as they will be brighter than your current lights.

Mars aqua is the name that comes up all the time. Any of them that look alike are 165w Full spectrum adjustable LED's. Or you can add T5 lights but they get expensive with having to change bulbs every 6-9 months.

I have never used the Chinese fixtures either. But I have seen s lot off good growth under those fixtures.... It's better than what you have. Before you purchase something please read, not only for the sake of whatever it is you are getting.... But also for you and your pocket as well.... Hindsight is always 20/20, take this as a learning curve and move forward.... I lost my first nem due to lack of knowledge.... I bought it bleached and seen its mouth sag and took it out.... I could have saved it looking back but ignorance is bliss....

Thank you for all of the amazing responses you guys, incredibly informative. Yes I do have the Orbit Marine, but after doing more specific lighting research of my own I realize how inadequate my light really is. You were right on about light being my issue. I woke up to the anemone with it's mouth closing up and it inflated up much more. I have planned on running a Kessil A160we on the tank (40 breeder) which would be good right? If so is there anyway the nem might last under what I have now until I get that in a couple weeks? Anything I might be able to do until then to hold it over? It is sitting very low in the tank so definitely not getting the full intensity I wouldn't think.

Kessils are great lights.... I would raise the intensity of your current light, and as long as there is progress then you should be fine. A bubble tip is a pretty tough creature, one of the toughest nems they have. But you do need to upgrade as soon as possible. I would let it be, let it acclimate to its new environment....

The light is currently up to it's maximum intenisty and it did eat a piece of mysis shrimp. I will get the Kessil as soon as I possibly can. There is definitely improvement in the first hours of the light being on today.

I put some additional LED lighting on the tank with some extra marinelands I had lying around, hopefully that helps as well. The nem is looking much better though, mouth closed, rose color is back.

Well it just suddenly died, so I pulled it out and emailed Live Aquria about it. This definitely sucks.
