What is your favorite Angel?

so what does your stocking list look like petedoc? what is that on the base of your tank? it looks pretty unusual.

I put a think layer of sand in my tank and I'm regretting it already. Should have gone for the bare bottom jacuzzi effect........

Better let it as it is for now, the mrs had heart failure when she discovered how much the sand alone cost (lesson to be learned here, either burn or eat the invoice!)

I'll post pics of my emporer later. I got him at the most perfect size imagineable - just started to change, not even 1 broken line yet, but two dots in the middle, and a face that is startign to get pale - he's a beauty..... will post pics later.

Debating now what fish I should get to house with him..... short list includes a blue face, queen, majestic (navarchus), maculosus, asfur, and dare I say it - a passer (king).......... I'll either add two more angels or else no more..... jury is still out on that one - I'd wanna make up my mind soon though, before the emporer gets too used to his surroundings.

Other fish may (or may not) include a sohal tang and pink tail trigger.

My way of thinking as far as the angels go is that the emporer is about 3-4". He is to be my "baby" hence the reason he got the priveleged head start. The likely candidates would either have to be more agressive, but smaller OR less aggressvie and bigger. So, I am looking at combo's such as an adult blue face or majestic or asfur (4-5") & small juv. passer or queen or maculosus (2.5").

madamo - agreed, if its a nice one..... but there are some muts out there too! Given a really good one, with plenty of blue or green iridescence, lon orange streamers, a big blue crown and blue frills around the gills........ difficult to beat indeed.

But I've got an emporer in my 240!

I've had both in the past - I would concur that the queen is more spectacular, beautiful, etc. but the emporer has more character, and between the two (I had both at the same time in a 7' tank) I opted to keep the emporer and sell on the queen (they weren't fighting, just the hobby was taking a new direction for me at teh time).

If I had a really large tank - or at least space to upgrade to a realyl large tank - then I would get another queen - but I really feel they need something in the region of 10'x3'x30"(high) once they get 12"+. there are a couple of vid's knocking around with a 14" queen in a 240 - to me it really is a "lion in a cage" type scenario. They like to "cruise" more so than the pomocanthus angels, which in my opinion are more "heads down" investigators.

mattsilver, good questions! The bottom of my tank is covered with Travertine tiles. My 135 gal tank has the Emperor, Majestic and Coral Beauty angels and Bluejaw Trigger, Blonde Naso Tang, Foxface Rabbitfish, Tomatoe Clown, and a few smaller odds and ends. All of these fish are large 5-7 inches. The 270 reef is about the same volume as your system. It has a two Chrysurus Angels, one Majestic Angel, a Pinktail Trigger, Vlamingi Tang, Pyramid Butterfly, Spotted Rabbitfish, schools of Dispar Anthias and Green Chromies. All of these fish are small juveniles, 2 inches

Hey folks,

So here's a pic of my juv. emporer angel, as promised:

I got a blue face too, small adult, about the same size as the emporer - pics to follow!
Regards,

Matt

Matt, very nice Emporer. Mine has been full adult coloration for a couple of years now, but I have a good photo of the changeling in my photo gallery.
