What is your favorite Angel?

My emperor is in my 135 reef, along with the majestic and coral beauty angels. When the emperor was small it didn't pick on anything, now that it is almost an adult it has picked on most all of the soft corals and lps corals. My second tank is a "LRWIO" (Live Rock With Invertebrates Only), that is where all of the picked on corals now live.

Well i don't have that many corals and i think i won't add much as there is a possibility just like you said, when he gets bigger he might start eating corals.

Yes, my zoos were getting chewed up and all started disappearing, my xenia was almost dormant, and my large devils hand had shrunk down to a small fist. They are all doing better in the other tank. My sps coral are doing fine and my blastumosa looks good.

who has had success with the Regal Angel? Sites selling them advise only experts attempt to keep one...
here's mine

Moonpod, is that a Koran along with your Regal and Emperor angels? Looks like the makings of a battle royal in the future!

It's all on the website and the signature.

Chrysurus Angel, not a Koran. I don't really like Korans

Current Angel residents: Goldflake, Regal, Imperata (juvi), Chrysurus (juvi)

Significant "others": vlamingi, 3 purple tangs, niger trigger, and a bunch of rinky dink dudes.

Currently a 180.

Am in the process of major tank upgrade (10x3x2). Once upgraded, will add a few more purples to make a real school and will get a conspic and a dussumieri tang. I have a juvi blue ring couple (not a pair just 2 of 'em) (sold as a blueface but I don't think so) in my office tank that will probably go into the main tank as well.

I have a question that is a little off track with this discussion. Can you keep any kind of corals, shrooms, polpys or anything like that with Angles or will they eat and pick at everything? If there are some things (besides LR) you can safely keep with Angels please let me know. Thanks.

The Blueface angel (there are photos of mine on one of the first pages in this thread) are more or less reefsafe. They tend to nibble at any of the open brain corals. Mine has not bothered my clams or anything else.

How about he "reef-safe" Genicanthus angels? I've never seen one in person and no one mentioned them, I don't think. Do they rate with the other angels?
Mike

A couple of our local stores get them in occasionally. They are quite beautiful though very different from the other angels. Not as brightly colored and lacking the typical "pug nose" look of regular angels. Beautiful swallowtails. Totally reefsafe. I would love to have a pair of Bellus angels.

You guys are talking about keeping angels in non-reef setups, right? I was under the impression that you were asking for trouble with most of the angels you have listed both in appetite and size considerations. I have done well with pygmy type angels and my fav. is the flameback!

The Blueface can be trusted with all but the open brain corals in reef aquariums.

Time to resurrect this thread. I now have had three angels in my 135 reef for over three years. I have a variety of sps, lps and softies still in the tank. My Emporer, Majestic, and Coral Beauty Angels have thrived. My new 270 reef has two juvenile Chrysurus Angels and I plan to add a Regal as soon as I can find a healthy one. Check out my gallery for a few photos of the current angels. Any other recommendations for a large reef tank and a few angels? What are your experiences with angels in reef systems?

Well, my Regal Angel will arrive tomorrow as well as a Pinktail Trigger and a Atlantic Blue Tang. They will be the last major fish in my 270 reef. I will post pics soon.
