im really interested in getting a clam for my 55g tank. i have 2 250watt 14k MH with no supplementation. would this be enough light? also could you please list some general facts about them so when i do get one i know what to feed it where it would like to be rocks or sand? etc etc

thanks,

Mark

thanks very much for those very interesting and helpfull articles. im thinking i may have to supplement feed a clam. is this true? ive heard that phytoplankton is the best for this as well. also i really like the looks of clams in general but which do you think would be best suited for my tank? i was thinking either coreca or maxima.

when clams are over 2 1/2 to 3" they can sustain themselves on light alone.i would also suggest for you first clam to get one over 3" because the tend to do the best. Croceas and Maximas tend to be more difficult to keep. your lighting would be fine for them but for a first clam a Derasa would be the most forgiving.

Derasa is the best clam IMO & IME for someone that has not ever kept one. :) Tridacna maxima being the hardest to keep.
