What kind of GFO do you like?

Where's The Reef?
I am setting up a GFO reactor, and I am curious as to what Media to use, I don't currently have issues with PO4, or Nitrates, I just think they could be lower.I am mainly doing it for better color out of my Acro's.So....What do you run, and why?

I don't want a product that strips my water of all Nutrients, just something that helps keep the system clean.

I use bulk reef supply high capacity. It's economical and lasts a long time on low-nutrient systems. You won't need much, not even close to what their dosing calculator says. I use a cup for 300 gallons which I carbon dose as well. It lasts for at least a month for me.

I use GFO from BRS as well but I don't use the high capacity, just the regular. I replace mine every 5 weeks.

I have used BRS High Capacity GFO as well as Rowaphos. I have found that both work just fine for my system (though I am sure there are others who swear by one or the other!)

RowaPhos is all I use, and all I will ever use in the foreseeable future, on my reef systems. Period

Unless its for curing rock, which Im currently doing for a new large system, then ill use one of the less expensive, lower grade GFOs i.e. BRS, PhosBan ...

I use brs gfo at the moment in a brs reactor. I only use about a half cup to a cup for a ~245g (total) system. Change every 4-6 weeks. Display tanks are 165g total. I adjust as needed based on phosphate readings.

I used phosban and chemiclean on my old 29g as I bought in much smaller volume. No complaints, but I can't really say if one is better than the other.

I used rowa for years then switched to BRS High Capacity. Been happy with it both work I would just use whatever gives you the most for the money.

As far as ROWA being a better product there are some threads some where that show BRS HC actually works better then ROWA. I just took their word for it I can't tell the difference i'm always @ 0 I use it for maintenance.

For me, anything Iron based. It is far less toxic than Aluminium based. Rawaphos an phosban work equally well IMO. Phosguard and Phos-zorb had a terrible impact on my fish and inverts.

I have also heard really good things about polyfilters.

Just lower the PO4 slowly, lowering it quickly can stress your animals.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!

How do you guys know how long the GFO is actually lasting you? Do you run activated carbon? How much and how often do you change that out?
