First picture I have seen of a white striped mac.

They are marked as "Aquacultured."

Here is a maze. Although it looks more like a blueline/bluespot hybrid. None of the maze angels seem to look alike. More like hybrids.

The maze angels have always been thought to be hybrids... and macs have been strip spawned for years in Taiwan with the rare white morph now available in limited numbers for a price many times that of the regular ones but of course much less than the occasional wild specimen...

Anyway, to the truly rare... here's a C. ballinae in a Japanese tank... this is the subspecies from the seamount outside Lord Howe known as C. ballinae plasticus...

:p

John, that fish is a fake ... it is a plastic model some guy made and placed in his tank. I have that magazine and had a Japanese student translate the photo caption. LOL

:D I realized that after we spoke about it Charles and was embarrassed after looking closer (but it fooled Frank too!), and I wanted to see if anyone would pick up on the "plasticus" subspecies reference and have a little fun...:p way to be the spoiler!

I gave the article to a guy I work with who sort of speaks Japanese and dates a Japanese girl... he came back to me too saying "you realize that fish is plastic?" This was after you brought it up so I pretended I figured it out myself...:D

It's still the nicest ballinae I've ever seen in an aquarium... :)

Another giveaway was that the fish was always in the same position... :D

NICE. :D

So much for me putting it up in the for sale section :(

On a more serious note, here's a shot of the real one in my basement...

Hey Charles, what's Randall have to say about the Maze angel?

Found this image from a Japanese site that looks to be a goldflake/flagfin hybrid... also heard of a goldflake/Griffis' hybrid that went through Hawaii recently...

I have a picture of a flagfin/goldflake hybrid I took in 1989 (?) that I sent to Richard Pyle. I found it in a petshop in NY.

Aloha!
Charles

Here's a hybrid from the Indian Ocean - C. acanthops x flavicauda possibly. Funny how it looks almost identical to C. fisheri and was typical size for an adult C. fisheri. I will get more pics at my friend's shop in CT when I am down there...Was collected at 30m depth.

Another interesting Centropyge hybrid I used to have. Idiot jumped out of the tank...C. nox x heraldi i think.
