What the heck just happened to my firegoby?

hi guys. I had my little 20gal running fine with LR, 2 chromis, 1 fire goby, some snails and a hermit crab.

All was well. Id occasionally do a kalkwasser top off since my coraline is finally going insaine.

Now this past miserable week, its been ungodly hot up here in my room. My parents in all their infinite wisdom wont let us put an AC unit up here, theyre paranoid it will fall out (even though several neighbors have done this for years without problems)

So i wake up today to find my firegoby lying dead in the front of the tank. Laying a fiew inches from him is an empty hermit crab shell.

Anyone ahve any clue what happened? hes been eating, he hasnt been hiding. All i can think of is the constant temp changes did him in.

And where the heck is that crab? should i ahve reason to beleive he went house hunting? i do have other shells for him in there, but i dont see any missing.

thanks in advance guys

Let me give you at least a lead on ac that won't fall out of your window. At Lowes/Home Depot, that sort of place, you can find a rollabout air conditioner. The only thing that goes in the window is the exhaust hose, stuck in a piece of hard foam so you can close the window on it. If your folks are worried about security, the opening is only 5 inches, and you can use a stick to prevent the window opening any further. It runs on ordinary house current, installs by sticking a plug in the wall and the hose/foam in the window and shutting the window on it: turn on, that's it. This is a genuine refrigerated air unit.

You're probably quite right about the cause of demise. I hope you can swing the a/c. Perhaps if you offer to go in partners with your parents, and point out that it will help cool the whole house, exhausting all the heat that accumulates on the upper floor.

yea ive heard about those. Security aint much of an issue, im up all night...im gonna fight for one. ive got all kinds of computer equipment and musical instruments up here dont appreciate the heat

ouch i didnt think they were that much! a friend of mine had one from marcs lol. it did one room, but thats all im looking for

The search word is "portable air conditioner"---and that's about a median price. Main thing, don't get an air 'cooler', which isn't refrigerated air. Think of it as replacing that chiller and keeping your investment in several other items of equipment. Plus, being portable, it moves with you, just like any other piece of furniture.
