What to do with corals there are getting too big

I need some input on what to do with corals that are getting too large for my tank, which include chalice, hammer, and soft leather corals. My question is not how to make them smaller, but what to do with them after sectioning. I have no other acquaintances in the hobby. As far as local stores, the closest is 100 miles away. I didn't know if anyone has had any luck making a little money on some large frags by selling to stores. Is simply disposing of the sections removed the most reasonable thing to do

I have sold corals to stores, and I am sure others have as well. I would contact them before you frag anything and see if they are interested. If so, frag away - a lot of us do things like this not only to allow for extra room in the tank, but to also help the tank pay for itself

The other option would be to just buy a larger tank [emoji1]

my lfs won't buy anything but they will "take donations". i finally found another reefer close to me who will take stuff off my hands but her tank is only 55g so i've just about filled it up so i'm gonna have the same problem as you, eventually.

closest one is an hour away. not sure how active it is, i've never checked.

I have not found too many LFS that will "buy" corals/fish, but almost all of them will give store credit in return for livestock.

You might post something on Craigslist. I know that sometimes my DFW Craigslist shows things in Oklahoma.

Also shipping coral isnt as hard as most people think. Look into how to do it, and try selling it on ebay with a no reserve auction that starts at $0.01.

Or if all that sounds like a lot of trouble, then yes disposing of it would be my last resort. I am guilty of it, especially with GSP and other fast growing invasive corals. I have give not away large rocks covered with it in exchange for dry rock.

Our local reef club has a DBTC program, it's a great way to give big chunks away. Craig's list is great for selling locally. Just be sure to ask questions before giving your home address. I ask (a) what size is your tank. (b) how long has your reef been up and running. And when in doubt if they are in the hobby, I ask what they dose for Alk and Calc. We all know there is a 110gallon, 120, 125, etc, but if someone says 100, hmmm ask more questions to determine they actually have a tank. I've literally had someone ask me, is there really salt in salt water... sigh, that is why I now ask questions. Good luck.

I just gave vspec and todd $350 for quality overgrown stuff that they had. Again, theirs was of great quality and it is store credit. May be worth the drive. coralsnmore, lee's place.
