What to put in my 45g?

Well I'm wondering what to put in my reef project for fish.

Got seriouse plans to keep a single or 2 pairs of pistol shrimp/ gobys. What else tho ? I want a nem with domino clown(black and white) pair, dwarf coral beauty, bi color blennie or lined blennie. Then I'm lost to what else to add.

Any suggestions. Oh and a saddleback mimic filefish or the matted file fish. Had one in my last 28g and was so fun to watch.
 
I think that you should only put the first five fish you list in your tank, and those should be OK. I would not do a group of chromis as they are well known to off each other until you are down to 1-2 and also that will put you over the 5 fish.
 
The size of your tank is what is limiting the population for the fishes physical and mental well being. Some people are able to push the limits successfully, but they are not the majority of hobbyists.

If it was my tank, I would only put 5 fish in it.
 
I doubt if you'll get away with a pair of gobies with a pair of shrimp in a 45. We have 2 gobies in our 55 and they do not get along. One hides and the other roams the tank, chasing the other one when he sees it, and they were added at the same time and got along for several months before this started. There's just not enough real estate in a tank that size.

Most anemones get very large, so you'll have to find one that does not for that size tank.

I would also stick with a maximum of 5 fish. We have 4 in our 55 (none of them are large or aggressive fish), and we just barely maintain a tentative peace with that number in there.
 
As for the anemone I was thinking either and LTA or a Rock anemone. Had a rock one and it was gorgeous and loved watching its tentacles move and grab food :) and it didn't sting or stick to me.

I'll stick to one shrimp/goby pair as it was my main goal and had thought another may work. The tank should be good size for a dwarf coral beauty?

I wish I had room for a tang but I know I don't :(
 
I meant I don't have any personal experience with them, or any angels. Since I keep corals I don't keep angels.

Oh I understand. I've owned the coral beauty before and it didn't touch anything in my tank and I had all kinds of coral. I have heard bad stories about them tho and am scared to try him again.

Also I recommend 5 fish in that tank.

Rock anemones are not hosting anemones.

M. doreensis, LTA, are sandbed dwelling anemones, so you will need a deep enough sandbed. What lighting are you planning on having?
A sandbed dwelling anemone and a goby/shrimp pair might not be the best mixture in a small tank.

What are the actually dimensions of this tank?

I currently have a coral beauty, it nips at all corals, but it LOVES to eat fleshy LPS.

Pair of bangaii cardinals
False Shepardi angel
Dracula goby
Yellow Watchman goby

I have the 45g cube (which is what I assume you have) which I got non reef ready and had it drilled with a gl*******s overflow. The skimmer I have is a swc 120, an mp40 turned way down for flow and a 5 bulb T5 fixture. Also 5g weekly water changes and the tank is a full reef.

When I stocked the tank I went for fish that would occupy different zones. The clowns stay in the nem around the rock work, the angel swims around the whole tank, the cardinals hover around in the open water, and the gobies stay down near there caves on different sides of the tank. If you have 5 fish that want the same territory you are going to have a problem vs 5 fish that want to hang out in different territories.

This is a pic of the tank being used. It is the basic idea of the tank size. The equipment will be a sunlight supply 150watt mh with geissmenn 20k mega chrome bulb and 2 24" t5 geissmenn actinics. I'll be adding hydor wavemaker2 for flow as I do not have the incompe for the vortec right now so this was sold to me at a good price. I'll be running an odysea ps160 for skimmer with fish line added to the impeller for better bubbles. I'll make sure the tank it covered cuz I know blennies are known to be jumpers and who likes losing fish? Not me!

The tank will also be modded with a center drilled overflow to the back glass for easy repairs in the futur if ever needed.

My return will only be a mag 5 for now till I can get a larger pump.

I want the tank to house lots of macro algae. I have pics of what I want but gotta find the names as I took the pics from a members thread :)

Now you guys have a little better idea to what your questioning. The height of the tank is 18-20 I believe

How about if I added a green spotted puffer, a pair of true percs, pistol shrimp/goby pair, cleaner wrasse, coral beauty, bi-color blennie, and a red or blue star fish.

To much for a 45g cube with a 20-30g fuge/macro tank and 20g tank for mechanical equipment

Skip the cleaner wrasse and the stars -- those sound like "linka" stars which have an awful track record.

What is the dimensions of this cube? Worried about the coral beauty.
 
They are too valuable to fish in the wild.
Have a poor track record in our tanks -- most won't eat prepared foods -- some will, but still starve.
Can annoy the heck out of fish in a smaller tank -- trying to clean them all the time.
