What would it look like?

Where did you get N=chromosomes information?

As far as Family and Genus classification, they are both in the Family Pomacentridae although they are separated by Genus classification; Amphiprion polymnus & Chromis viridis respectively. But lets not forget that these are classifications set up by humans for the purpose of organization and are not laws of science and thereby can be changed.

For that matter, the Premnas biaculeatus (maroon clown) & Amphiprion percula (Percula clown) have been shown to breed and they are classified in two different Genus within this same Family of Pomacentridae.

Remember people, absolutes only impede progress.

Very good post IMHO.

There actually is a real Liger. They crossbred a Lion with a Tiger, as you may know, and it $hits out crap the size of watermelons!

What did you get from your school textbook?

that for the most part species have to have the same # of chromosomes to breed sucessfully, excluding the few known close relatives (liger, mule, R. Ciliatus X R. Chahoua etc....)

Not going to happen. Besides the obvious, clownfish lay their eggs, where as chromis's are broadcast spawner's.
Wrong they are substrate spawners, ie on a rock etc.

Well...it would equal a Hyena.

LOL...evolution, my friend, not cross-species-breeding.

Yes, chromis are in the same family as clowns, but the two species occupy two very different niches. Other hybridizations given as examples have been animals that all in all are quite similar, at least in my opinion. Liger is the result of crossing two very large, very predatory cats, both from the genus Panthera. Mules are made by crossing two herding equines, coincidentally both from the genus Equus.

The only thing separating a Maroon clown from an Ocellaris, is cheek spines. In my opinion it's absurd that they were even placed into a separate genus, the similarities they share far outweigh that small difference.

You always try to put me down, Slakker. I just don't understand WHY you do it. For practically every post of mine, you do something to prove me wrong. Why?

It's certainly not a personal issue...when I see information that I feel is inaccurate, I certainly think someone should at least challenge the poster and others to consider it.

You're not the only one who's feathers I've ruffled in doing so, I'm ashamed to say.

Well, as long as you are just an accurate kind of guy, I guess that I will be okay with it. By the way, did you get my PM?

I did, yeah. I think I have a user name on the Steam forums, but with all of the stuff I've got going on right now I find that I have to do all of my "relaxation time" stuff later at night, when I should be asleep...adding pro-bono tech support to my plate is just not something I want to do right now :)

Alright...just thought that you ould be interested...but it appears that you have too much stuuf to do with not enough time to do it! LOL.

Hey slakker, you basically reiterated the point I was trying to make with the mule analogy. Apparently I really need to work on my communication skills!

And I don't find your tendency toward accuracy to be at all annoying.
