Alright.
Last night the water in the qt had gotten a bit cloudy. It's still testing zero ammonia. I added a 50 micron sock and did a 100g water change.
The purple tang didn't eat last night.

I came downstairs to check up on the fish before bed. The purple tang was in the front corner breathing heavy, laying on the bottom. I tried to prep the fw dip but I guess it was too late... I found him a few minutes ago upside down.
I am very bummed out right now. I waited a long time for a healthy one to come around and on top of that my yellow and purple would swim around together.
All of the other fish appear fine and are eating. I've tested for ammonia several times each day and haven't seen any. I'm on day 7.

Damn, sorry to hear about the tang. Well you're doing a good job, you have a lot to manage and going forward I would have a 5 gal fw dip bucket prepared with airstone, heater & adjusted pH. Any fish that shows a symptom, I would dip immediately, it's likely the tang wouldn't have survived the dip in that condition, but I too would have gone for it since there was no alternative to death. You have a lot of sensitive fish and the last time I treated velvet (pair of clowns, hardy as can be) I had to fw dip daily, sometimes twice in conjunction with CP in the quarantine to get them over the hump (note that the clowns were heavily infected).

Thanks, he hadn't been eating the last two days but wouldn't really let me get a good look at him. I had a tank setup but i wasn't sure of the water quality anymore so I refreshed it. My ro storage is aerated and almost to temp already so it only takes a bit of ph adjustment to get it ready.
The rest are still ready to feast when they see me.

I tried to get my vet to write a script and they gave me the standard run around. Shame too, I liked that vet.
I need a script so i can get something legit. If one of you with a pure source have a good lead please send me a pm.

Still seems to be going well. No more surprises.
I was able to get CP from a local compounding pharmacy (Pencol) for $85 per 50grams. I did have a prescription written by a local fish vet
. More pricey then other options and thank you to everyone who offered some pure stuff. I was really after a local source in case I or any of my fish friends need it again. Now we know the proper channels so it shouldn't take weeks.
I have had some frustration with LiveAquaria though. They have been slow with communication lately which is somewhat expected but there is a point where faith starts fading. You would think I could get a phone call after buying Divers Den for the last several years. I'm not giving up on them yet but I am frustrated with the lack of communication.

When I moved the rock over that night until 5am I sprained both of my wrists/ something in my forearms. I ignored it for the most part but while at work I picked up something too heavy and they both gave out. The gap in my posts and the reason I posted one liners here and there for the last two weeks was because I had little to no use of my arms.
I've learned a lot from this experience and will be a better reefer from it. I've been so far removed from disease over the years I became complacent and over trusted my source.
I really appreciate the help and support from everyone that helped. The hunt for chloroquine was a challenge. I am lucky my friend had a bag of it. It had only been in his hands for 2 days at that point. The ebay order came late and my vet was not concerned the slightest.
Will keep you posted. In the meantime I will be converting my 50g rubbermaid bta tank into a 90g 4x4x1 acrylic flat and working on a few things while the display system is fallow. Gotta make the best of it. Merry Christmas to all.

So sorry about your arms! Has to be a royal PITA to have to worry about what you can and cannot do. Best to develop a source for CP (my vet keeps fish so it is not an issue) as it is really a great way to solve a lot of parasite problems. Glad you are on the road to renewed goodness. You know there are times when it is easier to give up. Those who don't are sometimes rewarded so I take my changes and keep on pushing.
I've started removing the CP. The Bicolor angel started showing red streaks around its mouth and gills so I added Seachem Neoplex to the system at the recommended dosage. I'm not really sure how good it is but it was really the only thing I had available in significant enough quantity. I should have preordered something in advance...
It states it doesn't impact the filter but that is already proven to be bogus, salifert tested zero, but my trusted jungle kit showed between .25 and 5 the day after testing. Could have been a false reading but the tank got very cloudy, too cloudy. Conveniently it was time to do the large water changes to remove CP so I did two 180g water changes yesterday and today. The angel looks 95% better. Tank is crystal clear. All kits say zero.
Any advice how long to keep up with the neoplex? It says 3 weeks or until the fish improves, i'm on day 3.
I plan on leaving the display fallow for at least 6 more weeks.

The package states it is 43% neomycin sulfate and 57% filler. The reason I ask is it doesn't seem to follow the same dosing schedule as the rest of the neomycin sulfate meds. This says once per week while the rest say once per day. The actual dose recommend on the 99% neomycin equals the dose on the bottle of this stuff after accounting for the filler.

Isn't NeoPlex for external infections? I don't have personal experience with it either, but I recall reading about it. The red streaking could indicate a systemic infection and I'd look into an antibiotic you can mix with food.

Also, good job with all of this! You must be going through salt, RO membranes and hours of the day like mad.

Yeah, it says for external infections. I have some metro but don't think the fish will be very excited to eat it. Any recommendations?

Thanks, I've burned about 6 boxes of salt, rendered my arms useless for the better part of two weeks, and actually replaced my entire RO unit during this :lol:. I didn't have to but it was time, the AWI unit served a long life ~15 years...

My go to antibiotics are erythromycin, kanamycin & doxycycline (typically in that order), Dr. Fosters & Smith has a nice selection. I thaw some frozen seafood, add the powder & sometimes Seachem's Focus as a binder, refreeze then feed, fish seem to gobble it up.

I moved the Bicolor Angel into its own tank last night and am dosing it with kanaplex. The bacterial infection appears to be back and it stopped eating again so I decided to setup a new qt. I made up and refroze a mixture of kanamycin (kanaplex), focus binder, pe mysis, hakari mysis, spirulina brine, hakari squid, spirulina pellet, nls pellet, nls flake, garlic concentrate. The rest of the fish are eating the medicated food. I'm about to do another big water change and toss some carbon on the 360 now that they are eating again.
The QT setup cost $55 with tax.
-20L (petco $/gal)
-heater
-float thermometer.
-air pump w 2 small stones.
-filter is made from disposable tupperware, foam block, and a 1" pvc pipe. 1 airstone goes inside the pvc and the upward airflow will draw water through the sponge. A glass container is better because it sinks, this one is held in place by two powerhead magnets. Use what you already have.
- 2 large pvc pipes zip tied together. The 2nd airstone gets ziptied to the back of the pvc.
I'm halfway through the fallow period. Too much going on!:fun4:
