Hater of Hair Algae
I have a little extra money to spend which doesn't happen often and I can't decide how to spend it on my tank. Currently I'm battling a bad hair algae outbreak so my buying options involve taking care of that, but I also want to consider long term plans as well, What would you buy???

1. Large Cleanup Crew and More Chaeto for Fuge

2. T5 lighting ( using small pc unit right now)

3. RO/DI unit, (buying RO/DI water @ LFS now)

RODI is the hands down favorite. Think of it... no more lugging 20 gallons of water from the FS to your car then from your car to the tank.

FOr me RO/DI

you only need a pinch of chaeto for you fuge, the more it grows the more it is binding nutrients up for you to remove.

The t5 lighting would be pretty cool though

RO/DI without a doubt. Besides the ease of having your own unit -- can make water whenever you need, and it seems like that need will be around midnight.

Also, and something I learned for myself -- not all LFS RO/DI water is the same. Some, aren't very good about maintaining their units, and the TDS will be high.

I agree with the RO/DI. Do you already have a fuge with Chaeto? If you do, the chaeto should grow and sustain itself, making it unnecessary to add more.
Do you have agood skimmer? That may be another option.
Congratulations on wanting to spend your money on getting your tank healthy, rather than cool livestock. You set a good example!

RO Unit. If you don't have any corals yet, then t5's not need yet. Clean up crew will only hold the hair algae in check, not getting rid of the problem.

If you're already using RO/DI and having a hair algea problem. I would look for other reasons. I'd cut down on feeding. Up the flow. Purchase a tunze? I'd purchase and run carbon and polyfilters 2/7 and up the water changes. If this helps, then add a little more cuc. Make small, significant changes, don't spend the money all in one place.

I would agree, but only if the TDS of the RO/DI water is known. When I switched from LFS RO/DI water to my own, my algae issues went away, with no other changes.

Whys, that was sweet! I used to juggle gallons of RO from the supermarket. I did cartwheels the first time I used my own RO/DI unit at home. sjj80, you could be naughty like so many of us have and spend more than you were originally willing and purchase all 3!

Then bankruptcy

Then divorce

Then "counseling"

Then personal rediscovery...

You get the idea. ;)

RO/DI unit from bulkreefsupply and their 2 section reactor where you can run phosban and carbon. These two will help you eradicate the HA and make for better tank quality ;)

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Earlier today I called the filter guys and purchased the Ocean Reef +1 five stage RO/DI!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for helping me make the most obvious choice, I can't wait for it to get here!!!

Oh BTW, Whys, I like the way you think;)
