Figured I'd post some pictures of some of the stuff I picked up. The color is not at all true (washed out 2 yr old MH bulb-new one on the way).

Gorgeos Zoas there.

I joined MTRC at the meet :-) I then ended up following up on the 180gallon Allglass marine setup that was advertised at the Aquatic Critter table. Was a pretty sweet deal in the end, so now I am a busy bee getting it going. Lights I had to get separate as this was a FOWLR tank, but the sump, skimmer, and pump are solid.

drs Foster & Smith had a crazy deal on the Coralife elite MH/T5 setup, 942 watts for $699 so I jumped on it.

I am into the whole thing for a song so I cannot complain.

awesome stuff gary....i wished i was more into SPS corals, but im too much of a lazy reefer to keep up with them

Gary,

Who is Jimmy? I want that Armageddons!!!! Plus Rev?? I want that Mahal's Kiss plus Unattainables!!! Those are awesome, I didn't see them at the swap. I'm always looking for new zoa collections!!!

Sweet Deals going there, congratulations and welcome to the MTRC.

Very nice, Gary!

I hope he's ready for this... Jimmy is JWJTide21 from Alabama. I've gotten several nice frags from Jimmy. Some of that was shopped on a month old forum in the Alabama Reefers forum (a month ago:)).

John,

If the colors on the SPS were at all accurate, they'd look a lot nicer. The zoas and chalice are under T5's, so they glow, but my MH are too old over the acro QT. New bulbs are on the way.

I got those gremlin's from Jimmy, too. Good stuff!

I got one of the Alabama torts, mel's mille, and a pocillipora from Harry; the gremlins from Jimmy; some Tub's blues from Randy (that are unfortunately brown, but I think its my tank more than anything... going to give them a few weeks and THEN complain to Randy about it  ); tricolor acro and rainbow monti from Chris S. and I think thats about it for me. Plus some stuff for my little bro's tank. :)

Gary, what are you doing to get such awesome/rich colors in your pics? I'm betting using a really nice/expensive lens, but I would be there's some post-processing in there too, or just some settings I'm missing somewhere. :D

Brandon

We got several frags from Jimmy. Nice frags. I live close enough to go to his house and pick them up and I must have a frag of Armageddons.

Brandon,

The acro shots are all with a Sigma 150mm f2.8. The other shots are top downs under T5, taken with the kit lens (18-55mm). I was leaned over the tank to block the light, trying to keep the lens as close to the water as possible without going in. It was a sight... I still haven't come close to where I'd say I'm past novice, yet. For post processing, I use PS. I do an Auto Correct, then Save for Web for size reduction. I take soo many pictures that I am lazy about processing. I've not started playing with shooting in RAW, so I need to read up and see what I can do. Sounds like a bit of processing, but some of the pictures I see from those that actually know what they are doing are so crisp, I can't believe it's not butter.

Armageddons are on the tough to keep list for many. I have only had them once before, but over about 9 months, they went from 9 polyps to 11, then to none. The new polyps came on quick, then it slowly declined. I'm hoping this time is different. I got a monster frag to start out with and they seem to like Jimmy's tank (fat and happy when I got them). Red Wines are another that slowly wasted away on me.

Gary:

Do you always treat that "heavily" that the corals show that level of stress? I'm just curious if your experience indicates that they recover when they discolor that significantly? I've done "heavy dipping" before with darkly-colored iodine-based dips and lost corals that way in the past so I'm just wondering if you've ever experienced the same thing. Thanks.

Dave

gflat and brandon,

You might try using a polarization filter on the lens, or at the least a haze filter (protects the lens). I was a pro in another life. As for the RAW format, I assume you are shooting a Nikon. Since you mention a kit, the D40 or D50?

I shot my nano from the front with great results on auto just with the haze filter. The polarization filter (if you get the 2 stage kind) will allow you to dial the right angle and really penetrate into the tank without the glare.

Very good to know, bro, thanks for sharing. :)

I have a UV filter on there (mainly to protect the lens), but I will look into some mid-range haze and polarization filters.

Photography is as bad as audio... never can learn it all. ;)

Oh, and I'm not sure what Gary has, but I'm shooting a D50. :)
