most people put "+1" but i hate the whole naming thing with a passion, so put "+n" meaning "+infinate".
Probably still about as clear as mud.

So in order to skip a few letters, I have to read a "book" on internet lingo? :lol:
This isn't directed to any single person here, but why not learn how to type? I took typing class in high-school, and I can type faster than I can think. There's typing classes online, etc.
And if you're really that bad, there's speech recognition software you can install on your computer, and just speak what you want to say.
This is all off-topic, let's get back on topic.

I have seen all the posted Purple Hornets name threads being plastered all over RC and even our local Forum and not until now that I never knew it was some form of deepwater zoas ... like I really care omigosh!! :lol:
Some of these named Zoas are stupendously :rolleye1: !! Next newly discovered Zoa/Paly I will name it Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! .... :lol:

I was just being a geeky programmer (n as a variable to store any value) , but also hate txt talk, etc and prefer the queens english
Plus can touch type quicker than most can visually type, but were going slightly off track here.

I love the whole naming thing as much as the next guy, but some people take it too far by adding their own name to the official name.....or worse yet, they're a small-time frag chop-shop who happened to score a nice colony and now they want to brand it so people can associate the morph with them....lame.

It's all about marketing, having a catchy name and especially if your the first to bring that specific coral out to the market.... means $$$$.
Some people get a kick of having a coral/polyp named after them or named by them. To each to his own I guess. But I find it sometimes funny or ridiculous at times with the names

Why not just call them by there colors? Yes I understand they might reseamble something out there in the world but hey I am sure that they also reseamble more then a few other things out there as well.
Also a lot of zoas/palys can "morph" to another color or just plain look a different color under different lighting. Then someone calls them by a new name and wam bam thank you maam we now have another variety of zoas even though they are the same.
I have some palys that came with red skirts and beige centers that now have orange skirts and orange centers. What are those called.......PALYS if you ask me.

I guess I should clarify my statement....i'm referring to Zoaid....the only definitive source for names, imo. Who Dah? worked hard to create that site.....it boasts a wide variety of content, almost all provided by reefers like you and me.
Thus, if some flavour-of-the-month chop shop wants to use sites like Zoaid to help line his/her pockets with more cash by trying to attached their business with "their" named coral, then I have a problem with that.....and for what it's worth, my support for Zoaid will probably stop.
If they want to market it, find another way.
Naming corals is almost all fun and games - that's the way it started with Perun naming the PPE .......but naming something just so you can charge more $$ is lame (did i mention that already?

Its the way of business with corals now a days.. Go look at SPS and LPS.
I do use Jeremey's site to get a general look see on what that specific coral looks like and the general concensous on the specific identifying name is for that polyp. It's good for general ID.
I don't use the name for better pricing, better trade or what so ever. But what I don't like is the same freakin polyp named 100 different names and priced at 1mil different price tags for the same polyp just with a different name and cause it was exported from a different site in the world.

It's the way it's done in the US. You guys stand alone....you take the whole (reef aquarium) free enterprise thing to whole new levels the rest of the world never really experiences (thankfully).
Every Yank with a Dremel, a business loan and a basement tries to make a buck by out-fragging, out-naming, out-photoshopping the next guy. You guys take the cake for the all-mighty reef $$$ scramble. Do y'all have any idea how much of the ultra-grade acans that came into the US in the early months of the acan craze came from Canada? (ie. Toronto) You guys had the $ signs in your eyes so much so that you had to swipe them from under our own noses! hahah (no, no, i'm not ticked off...ok....maybe a wee bit! lol)
The Aussies finally smartened up and expanded their exporting contracts and look what happened...acan mania sweeps America! $1000 colonies, "colonies" with only 40-50 polyps, Rainbow this, Rainbow that.... even scolymia australis specimens going for thousands of dollars. Insane.
Not to say it doesn't happen in Canada and any other reef-heavy countries, but you guys do it on such a loud, large scale that it makes an near-mockery of the whole frag-retail business imo, while at the same time overshadowing some aspects of the worldwide coral/frag trade.
Germans and Japs, who are, for all intents and purposes, light years ahead of you and I, don't buy, chop and sell in the same feverish way you guys do, make no mistake.
A victim of your own doing? (of course, I don't mean you in particular! but you get the idea)
