When some montis look like this...

I've double-checked alk and ca against alternative kits (salifert and API in addition to Red Sea). I generally check alk a about twice a week, and use that as a basis to bump two part dosing. Ca I usually only test every other week or so. All my kits show Alk is right where I've been trying to keep it, between 7.5 and 8 dKH depending on time of day (highest just before lights on, lowest just before lights out). Ca seems to have crept up a little bit. About 440-460ppm, up from 420ppm two weeks ago. Base on that, it seems like Alk consumption is slightly outpacing Ca consumption for whatever reason. Since I mix from concentrate, it's possible that I just used slightly more RO/DI with the alk mix than the calcium. I've lowered Ca dosing by ~12%. I'll check it again in a few days to see if it's dropping off a bit.

The Salifert mag kit is actually brand new. Red Sea Mg titrant was running a little low, and I thought I'd try something else just for the heck of it. If I have time later today, I may take a sample down to the LFS to see if I can get them to double check it on one of their kits.

Glad I read this thread! I've read before the mollis are slightly more sensitive than some other montis when it comes to water quality. Seems like it may have served as a canary in the coal mine for me.

When was the last time you changed your halide bulbs?

(radium 250w)
olb bulb was about 1 year old

no change since that...

redsea tests are coming this week to retest ca+ and mg+
but since I don't dose mg++ I would be really surprised if the level is highier than salifert test.
salinity 1,025 with calibrated refractometer (35ppt solution)

Good news !! I've found the problem with my montis !

------------- MEN AT WORKS ------- :-(

montiporas eating nudibranchs...
found on other montis... not on the 2 I posted though...

many eggs and adults on this one :

Ah man, sorry about that. At least you know what it is...but heck...those things are going to be tough to beat. :(

Holy slimey bushterds! Look at them going about their business! Bloomin things.

Cant you setup a small nano tank and hunt these things down and kill? Is there a good dip for this stuff?

Ugggghhhh....this hobby is hard enough as it is...now we got coral munchers all over the place...

I wish you the best mate. :hmm2:

I've already treated all montis frags in the frag tank :

- keeping only clean live tissue and superglue everywhere else (undersides) on new plugs...

- will see for the main tank, but I think I will remove them to treat in the frag tank with superglue/scraping method...

Damn mate, sorry to see you have those little buggers. At least you know what's up and it sounds like you've got a good plan of attack to eradicate them. Good luck and keep us updated on how things go.

Hey bud plz dip you monties in Bayer once a week for 8 weeks and they will be gone nothing can touch the killing power of Bayer all the other dips are crap imo

I would do, but the Bayer insecticide used for the dip is not available in Canada...

thanks and yes will keep updated !

Also I've tested the water with red sea test :

- calcium 450 - same as salifert
- magnesium 1450 - same as salifert
- Alk 7,1 - a litlle lower than salifert (7.7)

in the process of slowly rising alk to 8-8.5 range (salifert)

Yea good luck. I have tried to beat those things for well over a year with no luck. I left my tank without monties for 6 months and the ones in my QT showed zero signs of them. I started to put the monties back and they show up again.

Oh man....sorry to see that. Hope you can save them.

thanks ! but sadly all the Nudis pictured in theses videos/photos are now dead

but if you were talking about the montis yes my plan is not to save colonies but healthy frags of each... we'll see !
