Whens the last time you cleaned your UV shields?(glass/acrylic under bulbs)

You know over time they get a lot of build up and begin blocking light.....and nobody wants that. I hadn't done it in months and then Grant had to go and say something about "how dirty the were" when he was at my house so I did a quick scrub with one of those Mr. Clean sponges and they look amazing. The sponge is soft so no scratchy scratchy on the acrylic and all the build up just wiped away. Give a rinse and a dry and they look brand new again! So my friends I ask you..........whens the last time you cleaned yours?

Every few months when Grant gives me grief about the build up, inbetween jabs about flatworms and "where'd my colors and p.e. go?" (flatworms!)

I've measured a 10% reduction in par with even moderate build up. I find wiping with vinegar helps remove the stubborn spots and the glass looks brand new again.

I did it when we swithed my tanks. I soaked them in Muriatic acid and they came out like new.

Bye the way Grant came over saturday and finished the stand.

Bob, How is that new tank working out? with the new rim less tank and the new custom cabinet it should look pretty sweet.

I soak mine in vinegar and water and in 15 min they look brand new.
