So Friday night, after lights out, I gave my tank a quick once over before I went to bed (as I do every night). I could tell something was up because, I could vaguely see thousands of particles in the water. I grabbed my little LED flashlight (which I always keep on hand) and looked into the tank. What did I see? Thousands of copepods. I mean, they were everywhere, and in the same concentration at every position in the water column (if that makes sense). Hundreds of them would swarm to the circle of light made by the flashlight.
This tank (a 40 breeder) has been running for about 3 years, now. Like I said before, I pretty much check it every night. I've never actually witnessed a pod swarm until that night. It was pretty neat to see. But, when I checked the next night, there was nothing. Where did all the pods go? Do they die off? Do they go back to hiding in the rock? Do they hop into their over-sized luxury cars and move to Boca? What gives?
