Where should I put my ecotech powerheads on my tank?

HI RC. I have a tank kindof shaped like a 40 gallon breeder. I have an MP40 and two MP10's available to use. Where would you place these powerheads if you had the choice?

A lot depends on what you plan to have in the tank, but without that info I'd suggest using both MP10's. In a rectangular tank I'd put one on the left wall about one third of the way down. THe other on the right wall about half-way down. Put one towards the front glass and the other toward the rear. Then you'll want to start tweaking things with settings.

For an SPS dominated tank I would put the MP40 on the left side, one of the MP10s on the right side, and the last MP10 on the back middle of the glass.
I would run them all on reef crest mode with setting the max flow relatively low.
For softies/lps I would just use the two MP10s on each side and ditch the MP40.

Is it an older MP40 or the MP40QD? There's a big difference in the amount of flow created... A single MP40QD can thoroughly create flow in a 4' tank, though two at lower settings is always better for creating varied flow.

Anyway, my point in saying that is that an MP40QD will need to be kept VERY low on a 40 breeder. I wouldn't put it past like 20%. I thin the best solution would be to run the MP40 on one side, then an MP10 on the other side and the 3rd MP10 on the back. Make the MP40 the master and run it low at like 20%, then override the max output settings on the MP10s and run them a little higher like 50 or 60%.
