I have read of several TOTM quality tanks using sodium chloride free salt to help keep these ions from getting out of balance when dosing additives like Randys 2 part method for calcium, alkalinity and magnesium. How exactly are they using it and where can we get some. Is it really that important? On both tanks I have seen they are still doing 10% water changes weekly with fantastic results. The tanks were Iwans awesome 210 gallon and Pieter TOTM from Feb 2006. Thanks

IIRC it's really only simple epsom salt being used, Magnesium sulphate. It's not the sodium that gets out of balance, but rather the chloride as those calcium and magnesium in the DIY 2 parts is in the form of calcium chloride and magnesium chloride.
