ok its a silly question, but i cant determine where my snowflake eels stomach is.
when he eats he jets so fast that i cant get a very good look at where the food is going.
there is a slight "puff" right behind his gills, like his throat area, is this its stomach??
well if this is his stomach wheres his butt?

thank you :)
yep thats what i was doing too before i posted. i kept googling eels belly, stomach etc. and i couldnt find anything

ive always heard that their belly bulges with food after they eat, well dang i just dont see it. the little puff near his gills i think is just him breathing
after we find the stomach we must locate his buttocks.
okee im kidding on that part :D

ahh ha very good :D
thnx
im sure electric and moray's vital organs are in the same area.
odd that the anal vent is so close to its head :eek1:

Note that the electric eel is not a true eel, while the moray is. True eels don't have a dedicated anal vent - their mouth serves double duty in that regard.

Am I understanding you correctly? I don't believe this. All fish and eels have anal vents. They don't regurgitate waste through their mouths. Are you mixing up eels with echinoderms? :)

I could have sworn that is what I remembered from a long time ago, but of course when trying to find anything about such (at least on the Internet) there is nothing. My conclusion is that I was incorrect. I could not locate anything that told me where the vent is located, though there was some indication at one site that the vent is located just forward of the combined fin on the ventral side.

ya know i did come across alot of snowflake questions about their sfe throwing up...maybe they were pooping?? lol noooo it cant be they must have a bum somewhere

i dunno my eel has me very confused!! i dont know if hes eating, i cant find his stomach...
i checked in his hidy hole and i found squid and bits of uneaten krill, which leads me to believe either these foods were offered too large and he couldnt eat them, or he just doesnt want these foods at all.
im not going to feed the squid anymore since i came across something that says eels can die from squid...who knows, but its enough for me to omit it from his diet.
he will take anything i offer, but theres no proof hes eating anything.
i gave him very small pieces of krill last night, he took a few sideways into his hole and came out about 2 mins later looking for more. did he eat it??? i have no clue since i didnt see any bulge in his body other than the puff behind his gills

i dont want to foul my tank with uneaten foods, and i dont want to starve this guy either....i wish i can force him to eat outside of the caves :(

Eels, just like other fish, have an anal vent ;) The abdominal cavity starts just slightly behind the gills and continues to the anal vent, roughly 1/3 of the way back from the head in most eels.

oh cool thnx :)

so that little bulge near his gill area after he eats is indeed food??
then i imagine it will work its way down, like a snake?

The gastro intestine tract and intestine lie just below the swimbladder and gonads. The stomach is narrow and shaped with an diverticulum giving it a Y-shaped form. However, there is a slower intestinal growth rate in marine species then in fresh water species.

you made me cough up my froot loops

okee i got the bugger to come out and get food. i held the feeding tongs up high from his cubby and he came all the way out, attacking the tongs like a blind man.
he got the food and i held on tight making him rip it appart so i can see what he does with it, hes very strong for his size lol
he tore off a good chunk and swallowed it! he then went frantic looking for more and got into a scuffle with mr. valentini puffer
did i see any proof of food showing in his belly? no not at all, but i saw him swallow so the eating mystery is solved. he does have a pretty good weight on him though so thats cool
