Which calcium reactor?

Hi All,

I'm coming close to using up my supply of two part and was thinking of trying a calcium reactor. Which one?

It will be for my 79G SPS tank.

So far browsing I see the following...

Geo 6x12 @ $322.95 or a package for 661.42.

Hey Mike,

I just got the GEO 612 deluxe package from PA. I spoke to Craig (CW from the OC), who has a GEO, and I used his settings when I set mine up (it's been just over a week), and I haven't had to touch it yet. I'm pretty much dialed-in already.

I'm using it on a 180g. I was worried it would be too small for my tank, but had to get this one due to space limitations in my stand. So far, it's keeping up.

PA also gave me free shipping on it! I just asked if they offered free shipping if I spent enough (e.g. Marine Depot). Jason asked what I was ordering, and he approved the free shipping :rollface:
 
Cool, thanks for the info tbone28! I'll ask Jason to see what he can do for me if I do go with GEO because I have a bunch of other things to add too.

You'll only need a CR1200. BAS quality and workmanship is superior to anything i've seen and used! My old reactor was a MRC and it can't even come close.

Mike, the aquac looks nice. I like the fact that it has a screw-in top.
 
we had a Deltec 600 and recently upgraded to a Volcano reactor. The Deltec reactors are nice, but they can be problematic when it comes to finding media. For us, since there were no LFS within an hour drive that stocked the media, it was a problem. We really like our Volcano Reactor, but I don't know if any of Scotts reactors are small enough for a 79g tank though.

The RX-1 that Mark picked up looks nice, and seems to really optimize the space and minimize it's footprint. Good features for tanks with limited equipment space. But performance and upkeep need to take priority though, so I wait to hear how that RX-1 is working out for Mark :D
 
nice looking reator Marko9! I'd have to compare the fooot print as well. What feed pump and media are you using?

I'm wondering if I would need my kalk reactor after putting a calcium reacot in place...main reason for the kalk reactor was low pH on my tank.
 
I use John guest fittings that feed off of my ruturn pump. I just ordered the Korallin course media. This reactor hold close to 8lbs of media. It will be going on my new system.

Low PH usually is a sign of the CO2 not fully de gassing before it hits the tank water. I used to have that problem until I switched my effluent to be mixed with my skimmer discharge. It is more turbulent and helps in the degassing process. I am now at 8.1-8.2 during the day and 7.9-8.0 at night. Things seem to do well. I am scraed of kalk reactors because I have heard of too many failing :(

I have a used (never by me) H&S 110CR-F1000 reactor with a CO2 tank and regulator if you are interested. Although I have never used it, i have heard some good things about it from the handful of people that have one. Seems like a solid product but because of the price and, at one point, scarcity of H&S products, they are not oft used. PM me if you are interested - I need to get rid of this. Oh, comes with media too

I ended up going with a GEO 6x12 deluxe package from Jason at PA.

Since I been using a GEO kalk reactor for quite some time now without any problems I'd give their calcium reactors a try. :)
 
I am looking to replace my home made Calcium reactor with either a AcuaC or GEO 6x12. Any final thoughts on your GEO Nuuze?

I just bought the AquaC RX-1 Calcium Reactor. The GEO was a close very close second and added about two hours of humming and hawing to the overall purchase :) I'd like to know how you like the GEO once you get it. That deluxe package that came with the GEO was very tuff to pass up!!!

Mike, looking good. You're lucky you have room for the 10 lb CO2 tank. I had to downsize to a 5 lb tank.

Are you going to teflon tape the threads to minimize CO2 leaks?

Patrick, my initial settings:

BPM ~90
effluent - 50 ml/min
pH controller - on 6.8/off 6.7
Gen-X media

my parameters are holding steady. I'm somewhat surprised since I'm running my pH on the higher side. I got these settings from another GEO owner.
