Nice shots everyone! The pic below is my Red Hyacanthus i got as a small colony from Live Aquaria. It is an old picture and is now about 14" across. The second picture is my ORA Red Planet. Both grow like weeds. Gotta luv tables!

Stunning. What is it?

like, eh?

I've had this one since the early '90's although it hasn't been properly identified. It originally came in as a wild caught Acro and it was spread around the northeastern USA by the late '90s. I've called it A. glauca in past threads on RC but you know how Acro ID is, Michael. Proper ID is suspect. It's coloration can appear red, pink, green/blue, brown or any combo of these colors. It tables (highly variable) in good laminar flow, can grow like a stag in slow flow and pillow in moderate flow. It's difficult to kill and makes for an excellent prop species- which I believe someone is already doing on a large scale. (Not me!)

The section shown in this pic is located in extreme high flow: 60" downstream of one of my main penducter capped returns and a 400w Ushio 14k & URI VHO actinics.

here's a frag of this same coral in another (local) person's reef aquarium

interesting, no? :)

The variation there is really interesting. It is also the reason I don't even try to ID my acros anymore as I could see a vendor selling both of those variants under completely different names and prices.

Another interesting facet here (at least, to me) is the "corals of the 90's" element. I completely understand what you're talking about since I absolutely can remember certain pieces that were very popular during that time that you just don't see anymore. I presume most of them were wild caught and, like yours, morphed themselves into something cool. Very rare then, all but extinct in captivity now

Someone should really start a 'Corals of The 90's' thread. With decent participation, imagine the eye-candy...and, especially for the old timers, imagine the memories.

Rose Millepora, hands down. I started this coral from a 1" frag about 2 years ago. It turned into a 6" table in less than 1 year. 1 year ago I snapped it off the rock, broke the colony in half and set one piece back in the display. The base was fully refused 1 month later and now it's turned back into an 8"+ wide table again. Unstoppable.

I have a blue-tipped A. cytherea that is growing like a weed. It far outpaces my efflo in terms of growth. The form is not as flat, but still def a table. Will try to get a picture at some point.

I grew the green guy from a little frag. It's several generations in cultivation, supposedly coming from a guy named Kedd in CT originally. I got it from Pnoyreefer. It'ws survived a lot of bad stuff, huge alk swings, calcium events, overheating. It's fairly tough.

nice stuff those pics brought a tear to my eye as i lost most of my colonies to AEFW. hope you guys QT your corals , it just took one piece that was infected with eggs that i missed to devastate my tank and kill 8 colonies. Again nice stuff hope in time I will have some pics to share ..

jimroth, that is a very nice efflo by the way. wish somebody here in oklahoma had some efflo i could get my hands on
Thanks. I value the table more, unfortunately, and the efflo grows very fast. It's got to get some kind of haircut next month, though I'm not looking forward to it. It's stopped being perfectly oval and is now filling in the places where it can get light.
