Who here has a Imperator Angel

Since I'm getting rid of my minioutios grouper I'd thought I'd would replace him with another beautiful fish. I've always thought these angels are 1 of the nicest looking out there.

Does anyone local have 1. If so share your experiences with this fish. Also is it in your reef or a Fowlr?

Better yet do you wanna sell it? I've had no luck finding a healthy speciman at our LFS. I know the critter gets them in but everytime I see them they just don't look healthy. I've lost enough high end pieces in the last few months & another pricey loss could just push me over the edge.

Chuck Is In to Angels But I don't know If he has that one In particular, Or would want to sell It. There a beautiful Fish and If I had a healthy one I sure wouldn't sell It, Unless I needed the Money or It was causing problems In some way.JMO

I've got an adult (5.5") emperor angel (a subadult blueface, flame angel and lamark..... getting a juvenile regal soon ;p).

I agree, the emporer is my favorite angel by far. I saw a picture of one in a book when I was like... 8 years old. The seed was planted then and I haven't been able to escape it.

All of my angels are in my reef tank and I have no issues whatsoever with sps. Zoanthids and fleshy lps are a different story though.

Angels can be a tough fish to get in healthy. It is common now for them to come in with flukes, so qt with prazipro is always going to be your safest bet. If the fish is eating, there is about a 95% chance that he is going to come out ok, especially if it's the only angel in the tank.


Also, an interesting thing about emporers (and some other angels), is that they grunt when they are startled or imposing their will on other fish I had always heard this, and wondered how you can hear a fish grunt. My tank is in my "home office". When I work from home, I hear him grunt, and loudly I might add, at least 20 times in a day. It took me a few weeks of "ALRIGHT! ENOUGH! WHAT IN THE CRAP IS THAT SOUND!" before I peiced it together.

Wes at the critter got a subadult emporer in for me at one point, but I wasn't able to keep it alive. The fish just didn't want to eat. The critter can get just about anything in for you, but its a fish straight from the wholesaler, so ymmv on its health.

The very best place to get an angel is divers den. The fish have been qt'd and are eating for a couple weeks before they are ever put up for sale. Reefhotspot is, imo, the second best place.

It may seem expensive to get a fish shipped from divers den, but if you are serious about getting a healthy emporer and wont stop until you have one swimming in your tank, in the long run its cheaper. I went through 3 before I got a healthy one that was stable enough to make it.

Hey Chuck would you mind posting pics of your Angels in this thread. Congrats on the Regal. They are awesome, I've always heard it's hard to get a good speciman to thrive in capitivity bi wish you the best of luck with it.

EBD, you may want to check with Rhett aka CommonStranger. He runs Litehouse Corals and also will special order fish in on his orders. He ordered me 3 BEAUTIFUL Dispar Anthias. they came in Very fat and healthy and ate from DAY 1! and the price was great. I know I got a good deal thru him.

I raised one from juvenile to adult many years ago. Finding a healthy one is key. Also feed a healthy diet as they are prone to lateral line disease. Water quality is a must with these fish. If going into a FOWLR keep the water quality as if it is a SPS reef.

They basically become like the family dog. They have so much personality.

I lost mine to ich after adding a coral beauty. The ich didn't kill the fish but the faulty copper test kit did. The loss caused me to leave the hobby for 10 years. I still miss that fish.
