Who uses ozone?

eris, I run my ozone through a jg fitting and haven't had any issues. that being said, it's a pretty simple thing to order a new one of a few (these things are cheap) from USplastics and change it out.

I ran ozone in my reef tank in the early ninty's, I found that the production of foam in my skimmer was less because the ozone would burn the desolved organics in the water. It was really cool. I am think of running it again. Does anybody know anything about the little coralife ozone unit. Thanks

I gave the tank up in the early nintys, My wife made me choose between two hobbys. My reef tank and racing slot cars and I chose the later. I had a Sanders unit using an original Lifereef air stone skimmer ( which worked great by the way) as my reaction chamber and ran the ozone at it's lowest setting. The water was like glass. I got back into reef tanks again (IN 2000) as my son grew up and wanted an aquarium. Been back ever since and never heard of anybody using it any longer, until I saw this thread.

I have about 50gal total. How much can I use safely with no controller, I just want to clear up my tank a little. Also- i have no input on my skimmer, can I use an airstone to bubble into my sump?

Since the beginning of this thread I know several people have started using ozone. For those of you who recently started and have been using it for a short time how do you feel about it now. What kind of effect has it had on your livestock?

I hooked up my 200mg Redsea unit last night. I am only running it at 25% on a controller set to turn off at ORP of 350
I don't want to start to fast
I will keep update as I go
I would also like to hear others experience

I've been using ozone for 3 months now with nothing but positive results. I'll never run an sps tank without it.

Recently I upped the dose on my 75 from 12.5 mg/hour to 25mg/hour to see if it would help to control some hair algae. After a few weeks the algae is almost completely gone.

Tom thats what I want to hear Yahoo, Ever since my salt change problems I have had an algae that I just can't get rid of.
Its not overgrowing anything it is just unsightly and I want it Gone! So that would be great if it helps

Thumbs up

Hooked up my 50mg/ hr. unit a couple of weeks ago, Water is crystal clear as expected. I started with a low dose 5% for three hours the first week, as to not shock the system or inhabitants. I am playing with 15 to 25 % for three hours a day and will increase the duration. I feel that the dose and duration all depend on the size and bioload of your system. I have a 46 gallon reef that is pretty packed out so I am getting a good feel for what is needed without the use of a controller. None the less Im pretty stoked about my unit.

Ken, what kind of algae do you have? After my CS salt nightmare I had this short brown/red algae. Wondered if you had the same?

JB mine is a very fine feather type algae I belive its Derbesia

It sprung up like wild fire during my salt problem. I never had it prior to the salt problems. I also had Bryopsis during the problems but water change got rid of that in a hurry

I have got it under control in the main tank, the tangs will pick at it but won't eat it like other algae
but in my refugium it grow bad I have tried everything to get rid of it
Turbos will eat it after you pull the larger clumps out but they can't get it in the cracks in the main tank so there are little patches of it around still
I have 100 Mexican turbo coming in tomorrow morning to put in the fuge to see if they can clear it out

LOL... I was doing 100g weekly changes for 3 months on a ~750 gal system. I would also say that running my skimmer 24/7 during that time helped I think you have seen my skimmer its a bit oversized

I figure when all my corals crashed it kicked up the nutrients in the system which spurred the algae growth
