WHOA!!! Ecotech quietdrive?

Sorry Cory but Ecotech has a terrible record for putting products on the market before the bugs are worked out. Ask Dave Botwin how long it took him to get his Radions working. Dave has a little, ahem, just a little experience with aquarium equipment, computers and all that. And then they released that device that made their lights wireless- another piece of equipment that was buggy in the extreme. And then there was the software EcoSmartLive... that was awful when it first came out, just terrible. And how about the driver to make their WXM module work with Apex, as it was marketed to-- that only took them about 2 years to fix.

Ecotech makes great products at high price points. But everyone runs out and buys them when they come out, so why would they change that price point?
In this day in age almost every product gets released with bugs and gets "beta" tested by US the consumer.
I bought my Note 4 the first week they came out and I can't even count how many problems it had at first. 4 updates or so later and it's working a lot better! Lol [emoji6]

As far as the Gyre and people loving it, it's only been a month...The fact that my (x150) broke within a month wasn't enough to justify replacing a functioning MP40 with it...

However, keeping my mp40's and using a Gyre x130 (At lower speeds), is amazing (So far). I get to run all pumps at 50% or less, which helps with noise and hopefully lifespan.

I'm doing the same. I like it so far, but I've only had the 130 a few days.

What's wrong with your old mp40s that makes you want to go out and buy a new 400 dollar pump? When all the tunze guys complained your vortech were tooo loud you defended them to the death...

I'll wait till ecotech releases these in pink and I'll run out and buy your old black ones

Nothing really but here is my take on it-

The Gyre pump has a different flow pattern than any propeller pump. I think it just depends on the application. For an SPS tank with sticks on top the Gyre is a good choice as it sends a flat stream of water across the whole top of the scape. When I had two MP40's instead I had to have them up close to 100% on reef crest and you could hear them quite a bit at times. Now I don't hear much at all making the change and turning everything down.

same for me, My mp40's have to shoot 4 ft across and then come back and get the spots under them....wasn't really happening....Having a peninsula tank, I only run pumps on my overflow side.

I've only had the Gyre (x130) up for 5 days, but it's great so far.

Ecotech Marine has announced completely new models for their entire line of VorTech pumps. The new pumps are called the VorTech QuietDrive (QD) and features new, well, everything (driver, wet, and dry side). The VorTech QDs are marketed as more efficient with up to 40% more output and 90% less motor noise. No, that's not a typo.

All new driver included with the VorTech MP10, MP40 and MP60
6+ Available continuous operational modes
Wave Auto Tune, Feed Mode & Night Mode
90% Less motor noise*
Up to 40% more output* (seems like just for mp40)
Dual bearing wet side
Communicates with existing WWD and โ€œwโ€ EcoSmart pumps
Fully compatible with EcoSmart Live via ReefLink
Compatible with wireless EcoSmart VorTechs
Available as an upgrade for WWD and EcoSmart Drivers

Good news. Another reason to wait before deciding on the Gyre. Now I'm hoping its competitive in pricing too. Also wonder if it's compatible with the Apex wireless module.

As soon as I get the word on pre orders, I will be purchasing. One thing to note tho, Neptune systems WaV will be released this spring. Lots of competition in the wave making market right now

Yep, so far for me the Gyre has been a huge disappointment, hopefully with time Maxspect can get there technology right and offer more features. Vortechs are tried and true and the lack of cord in the water is what I like. The WaV seems to me that it will give the vortechs and tunze pumps a run for their money as it offers very low profile (slightly larger then mp40 wet side) much smaller cord, quality DC motor and the ability to direct the flow all while providing comparable flow to the MP40. And then you have tunze pumps which IMO are the most reliable on the market. So in the next 4-5 months competition is going to be fierce.
