Hey that's the home alone shot !!! Seriously Capn, your tank looks outstanding! I have seen your sump/fuge setup a thousand times but not your tank.SWEET.

thanks again--this is becoming an awesome thread---its so easy to get new ideas for corals etc from pictures---i hope it continues

hats off to loyalconvict for starting it:smokin:

Thanks capn_hylinur. Answer to your questions...

The tank is a 150 gallon 3/4" acrylic. We have 6 T5's, (MH's are just too hot for Florida without a chiller) and it is a wave action setup.

i'm lovin the pics, heres my quick pbase account

http://www.pbase.com/tprince/fish_tank_shots

my tank looks so bland and barron compared to others... beleive it or not between the 55 fuge and 90 display there are 3 shipments of 45 lbs of fiji and a 30 lb shipment of tonga. and about 32 lbs of hand picked rock from F&S @ 6.99 A LB!!! its packed in there. i'm a huge fan of nano fish and thought all the little places for hiding would be great. but never thought of detritus build up. and the cram packed idea is bothering me now.

i'll get a pic of my 30 gallon fuge tommorow when the lights come back on. another 10-15 lbs or so in there....keep the pics coming please!

your tank has some excellent growth in it and thanks for starting this awesome thread

I notice alot of cyano on the substrate and detrius build up.

this is usually an indication of overfeeding(phosphates and nitrates) and flow (rate and direction)

I don't know what the other flow rates are in the tank pictured but the usual norm is 20-40 times the tank volume per hour for lps and greater then 40 for sps(taking into consideration specific husbandry conditions--eg mushrooms don't like a lot of flow)
My flow rate internally is about 40 and externally about 2000gph

In your case i would also direct a power head at those cyano areas

If you take a turkey baster once a week to the rock work and substrate and lightly baste--you'll put detrius and phosphates etc back into the water column where it can be filtered off.

As far as flow through the sump area it can be only 5-10 times the total water column volume and or match the rate of your skimmer--other wise unskimmed water is being returned to lower levels of the tank where it can feed cyano and algae

90 gallon fts

Here is my 90. No manual white balance setting sorry for the blue.

thanks--its amazing what you have done without metal halides

and the flow rate is also a key to your success

way to go bangkokMatt--finally get to see your whole tank--I've seen alot of the bits and pieces in a few posts or so:eek1:

the tank is awesome---I was just commenting on flow----when you look at your surface area--that's the way it should be

My wife didn't like the rock work laying on the back glass so I came up with the pyramid structure this way the tangs can race around the tank it's like having twice as much fish room.

thanks for the tips capn. flow rate in my tank is around 18-19 times turnover. the flow thru the sump/fuge i have turned back to about 350-400 GPH. after i move my tank i'll get the turn over to around 30 times.

i'm lovin this thread too. i hope the pics keep comin'

someone explain how to link directly to imageshack so it shows up here? i noticed alot of pics are just appearing but mine are not.. thx..

I don't know about image shack --I use www.photobucket.com

it's free:eek2:

Join and make up an account
Upload your pics from your computer--you can do three at a time
when they are uploaded it shows a picture and underneath it are three code options
click on the third one --- the img code--it will flash copied
return to your post and paste

its that easy:smokin:

cool--is that frogspawn on the top---how do you get new heads from that stuff---mines be in the tank for a year but stays the same size

My 65g mostly softy tank. I constructed the rock so that there are two caves one large and the other a little smaller.

70 Gallon Tech. Lot's of caves below for my Bartlett's

IMG_1670.jpg

great tank also===re bartletts--are these reef safe and will they get along with tangs and anthias----I being looking for another choice of fish to introduce to my crew

AMEN on the xenia! That's one coral I wish we would have never gotten. It will take over in a heartbeat and grow right the heck over your other corals -- if you let it - I am constantly "mowing" it down....

And some people can't grow them. They are like a weed in our tank....
