why cant i get rid of my cyano?

alright well i dosed my tank with chemi-clean 24 hours ago...

results are.....

no more cyano.....

now i know i know theres obviously an underlying issue that caused them in the first place...

im figuring it was a combo of overfeeding twice daily and not washing the food of its frozen juices

also my bulbs were about 9 months old might have been a factor but i think it was the feeding

so now im guna cut back on feeding, rinse my food, do a water change every 2 weeks and see how that works

but i gota admit that chemiclean worked as advertised!

thanks to those who recommended i use it

cyano

cyano

Is cyano the reason my filter sock is red and my skimmer is skimming red waste in the collection cup? I have a little red slime or cyano in my fuge but nothing in my main display

This weekend I am changing out my rowa phos. Do I need to do anything else for the cyano?

This is just an observation of mine, but does anyone else seem to get cyano around certain times of the year? It always seems to show up during spring-summer in my 55G. Perhaps it is the different angle of light coming in the windows or what?

There is a certain Sea Hare that will eat the stuff. I battled it for a while and nothing was working. I did not want to use any chems. Ken at Amazon Pets in San Jose, CA told me of a Sea Hare he had that would eat the stuff. He had loaned it out, so I was out of luck. I went on vacation and came back 10 days later to find in addition to the cyano I was starting to have a bit of an algae problem. I requested Ken get me some snails as I had not added any since I started the tank in Jan. He did have a new Sea Hare at the time, so I took him. It took him less than a week to clear all the cyano from my 180. Not sure if he helped with the hair algae (I added a Magnificent Foxface a day later that appeared to eat it all) or not, but I don't have any algae problems anymore.
The bugger is so ugly he is cute. I added a second (leafy kind that are not known for eating cyano) at the same time as the Foxface and between the three it is all gone. The Hares move much quicker than snails and are IMO much more interesting to watch. The lettuce leaf Hare is much faster than the one that eats cyano, but of course he is also about a third the size. I am now a bit concerned that I will not have enough for them to eat
:-)

I will try to take some pictures of them for everyone tonight.
