Why cant they make this for aquariums?????

They are cheap because they're not high output (T5HO) and they're also not for reef tanks. :D

It would be like getting one of the Coralife T5 fixtures methinks.

*shrugs* Why not? Only downside I could see is having to turn all lights on at once. Could be a bit of a shock to the fish depending on how early your lights come on. At the same time, maybe these would be very economical units for frag tanks where the corals probably wouldn't care as much for the sudden burst of light.

Give it a shot! I would recommend going with a longer one, though, simply because all of the different sized bulbs cost the same so a longer unit will give you more bang for your buck if it fits your tank. :)

my tank is only 24"x24" the unit is 25x25 i am trying to find out if it runs off of more than one ballast. If so I could wire up more switches.

Try doing a search on that in the feedback forum and in the equipment forum if you can. There might be some good info about the lights / company. The second link looks better to me because of the individual reflectors and the separate ballasts. The first link looks like it has only one ballast, and the reflector looks like it stinks, and the bulbs are for plants not corals.

The difference between these and the ones from companies like sunlight supply are in the quality of the reflectors and the ballasts and other components. Also, if you ever have problems, the folks at reef geek provide great support.

Might be perfect for a macroalgae tank!

The first unit you posted only had 24w bulbs. It took a while to find it:
FOUR 2' High Output 3000K BLOOM BULBS and FOUR 2' High Output 6500K GROW BULBS Included (T5 F24HO)

F24 is 24 watts

i might buy one from the first link you posted. will let you know how it goes.

BTW, im getting the 24 inch one. dont know if i should get the 2 lamp or 4 lamp one. still deciding. thanks for the link too.

They are for reef, just not our type.

I think SRT80 may have one.

I also am pretty sure thats what they switched to for lighting at Emerald Bay.

Picked up the Nova Extreme today!! Sunglasses are a must with all 8 bulbs lit up. I need some help/suggestions on light schedule or removing bulbs? so that I don't bleach or kill anything
My plan so far: all 4 Actinics 7:30am to 7:30pm and the 10k's 12 to 3pm

Any suggestions of alternating my bulb configuration?

OK, Great Question, that could almost be another thread:) I am interested in the response to that question.

I have actinic's come on at 9am till 10pm, and full lighting from 11am till 8pm and that is using a tek 8 bulb unit on my 90gal. so let's hear some other time schedules to see if I'm using to much light.

After posting noticed the question was bulb configuration, not timing:D . so here is my configuration from front to back
Actinic
pure actinic
aquablue
midday
actinic white
aquablue
super actinic
75-25 bulb
