Why do some people have an anemoe in SPS tank?

I think I want one now. Perhaps I will start off with a small one. Any particular place I should look to buy one? Red...The rose bubble tip that Live Aquaria sells is it the same as the long tentical red ones I see in your tanks?

Also I ordered some onyx clowns from Mitch. He was saying most people put a rbta in the aquarium first and place sps around the rbta. What I am doing is backwards. I am wanting to put a rbta in the tank after my sps are already placed. What do you think?

I have a Haddoni Carpet, 2 GBTA's and 2 RBTA's in my tank with SPS. Once the BTA's settle they are fine. I haven't had any SPS damage. I've even had SPS fall into the Haddoni without lasting problems.

This is a bad idea because the anemone WILL wander until it finds a spot it likes, not one that you like for it.

Not that I've ever lost corals to my rbtas, but it can be an issue.

I do believe rbta is a nice contract with sps. Would it hurt for me to get one? Or should I just let my clowns host in my frog spawn or hammer. Really want a rbta but don't want to lose any sps. How did you get started?

dont carpet nems stay on the sandbed, if so they shouldn't affect the placement of sps corals on rocks above the sandbed, correct me if im wrong.

I too am amazed by hobbyist that can keep LTA's or even BTA's in an SPS Dominant tank. My experience with these types of Anemone's is that they move around depending on flow/light.

I current have a 100g SPS Dominant tank and have a Green Haddoni Carpet. These guys are beautiful and they rarely move at all. Its still in the same spot since I've acquired it a year+ ago!!!

I had an enormous RTBA in my SPS tank for over 3-years and hardly ever moved except a few inches to either side of the rock. Never got hung up on powerheads or overflows, etc. The only problem I had was the RTBA got so big its tentacles would wonder all over adjoining SPS corals, thus causing tremendous irritation to them.

It is only my personal feeling that I would not place another (large) anemone in my tank again. Small yes, but not medium or large imho. I am actually looking at either a carpet or ritteri right now because my pair of ocells are very sad without their McManson that they used to reside in.

How are carpets in an SPS???

BTW: this pic does not do it justice. This thing was literally 15"+ in diameter.

IME even when a RBTA gets too close to SPS, it merely "irritates" SPS. I've never lost a SPS to a nem sting. I'm sure if you don't take action soon enough it could eventually kill the SPS, but if you move either the coral or the nem before too long, you should be fine.

Haddonis to prefer to be on/in the sandbed, usually right at the sand/rock interface. Gigs, on the other hand tend to prefer being on the rocks.

I have 5 Haddonis, and the only issue I have had with any of my SPS is when a frag falls on them -- good bye frag.

And this is why I keep them in SPS tanks,

Exactly! My Haddoni is at the bottom on the sandbed wedged inbetween LR. It stays put and is quite happy where it at. Hasnt moved a bit since I first got it. Perfect Anemone for an SPS Dominant Tank!

i have also tried RBTA in an sps tank
works fine as long as they don't run around, wich they do
isolating them on a rock on the sand bed doesnt work, they will just run over it to find their good spot
no more RBTA for me, but a haddoni seems a good choice for a big sps tank

I just got a nice haitian condi anemone, Ill have some pics soon. I had to completely change my aquascape to place it, and add a sand bed to steer it generally where I wanted it, but so far so good! I just got it because I like a large diversity of life in my tank, I prefer sps, but I also like to see everything: sps, gorgonians, anemones, fish, sps, zoas etc.

so a Haddoni is the way to go?

I prefer them -- since they are sand dwelling. However, finding a healthy one can be tricky, along with getting the flow right. They tend to prefer lower flow, which is opposite of SPS, so finding a happy medium can be difficult.

FYI -- "Condies" tend to prefer to stay on the rocks, and aren't hosting anemones.

I dont really know much about anemones, its my first one, I knew that the clowns wouldnt host in it, I just thought it looked really cool. glad to hear they dont move much!

When you say Gigs perfer to be on rocks is it like RBTA? I am confused as all the pics I see of Gigs is when they are on the sand near rocks like Haddonis.
