Why do we meet???

I am very new but I would love there to be more education in the meetings. Granted I have learned alot just by coming to the meetings and listening in on random topics as they are talked about around the room.

I would love to see more DIY demo's like how to cook up the 2part stuff. I can read about it all day but until I see it I am not likely to run out and buy the stuff needed. I am still new and as such I still fear nuking my tank by trying something I read about and getting it wrong.

Good topic we have going on here..

WOW this is looking very interesting. I would love to be part of the renovated club.
I am new in this hobby and I would like to be able to get information from experienced people. I think we should talk about the organization and the future of the club in the next meeting. What do we want to be and how can we get there?

I don't have much free time but I like to help.
If anybody can put together an agenda would be very helpful.
if we know ahead want topic we are going to talk about we can write down some questions and be prepared for the meeting.

I cant wait for my first meeting. :)

Now, that would be a Saturday worth taking off...I might even change my schedule if this happens. I have never been to meeting and stop me if Im wrong but I always thought they were get togethers in someones house who has a BIG nice setup. If this happens like reefartist said I have no choice but to join and attend all meetings...
Wardaddy, this is always needed, and outside pespective to help! Great Job guys...

we can do a 2 part demo and list places to buy the ingredients
This is something I would like to participate in.

I haven't been involved in the meetings but I think this is a great topic. I will definately attend if the meetings will be more structured and include education. I would also like to volunteer to help with club business. I was on the Board of Director's for our homeowner's association and a member of some other clubs like Tampa Bay Orchid Society. I can help with things like getting the agenda together and making contact with some regular place to hold meetings such as Tampa Aquarium, Lowry Park, or maybe even a library. We could also do some collecting and beach cleanups etc. for some of the meetings. I also think it would be good if we kept the website more up to date and added some educational materials. Let me know what is needed.

oh man, Lowry Park would be a great regular meeting place...Famlies could visit the zoo while we talk tank... good stuff there!

yes, but do they have any tanks to see, personally, I like seeing a new tank every month
I agree with seeing each others tanks. I also like the idea of the zoo, or the aquarium....and since this is not the Congress of the U.S.....a reasonable compromise can be expected.....3 or 4 times a year at some place other than a members home, and the rest of the time we see tanks!!!
Now see how easy this stuff is!!!

Bring all these good ideas to the April meeting, and lets have a discussion. KEY WORD: DISCUSSION...that's different than arguement.

do these meetings have a history of arguing? BTW.. Im done with my homework Professor..

wow I'm on Clearwater Beach with free internet but keeps cutting in and out...can't wait to read this thread tomorrow. Informal is great! I love seeing the tanks...but those of you who have been around the last year know I just flew into this whole thing and really know very litte. I have wanted to really know a lot of things!!!

Meeting at homes is a great thing, but f tis club gets more than 20 people to a meeting, that becomes difficult. What happens is, just like a cocktail party, people form small groups in different areas of the house and carry on their own conversations.

Once you get to 15 or 20 people at each meeting, and beyond, you need to have a place that can accomidate that many people. We can cross that bridge when we get to it.

One way to deal with seeing new tanks thing is a quarterly or semi annual tank tour. Members all meet at one house, look at the tank, talk about its set up, then move to the next tank... you can do 5 tanks in an afternoon and then end at an area fish store. at the store you can organize a BBQ, socialize and buy some great stuff.

there are all sorts of things that we can do, the question is what so we want to do?

I like where this is going. I attended the last meeting and joined. If this takes off I will definately get my money's worth out of the dues. I do like to socialize but a structured meeting is better. There are 27+ other days we can socialize.

Just a question - but where is the president in this conversation? Shouldn't he be involved here? When and how are the officers elected- or appointed in this club? What happens to the dues we pay, I really don't see where any money has been spent on the club. I've really not heard good things about the club, mainly it's just a social event. I've not been involved in any club what wasn't organized to a point of having a mission statement. Why have this reef club, where do the due go, etc?

Is there only a president? Maybe the president of the club likes the club the way it's ran and also some of the members that are not members of RC. RC and TBRC are separate - are there long term members of TBRC that like it the way it is now?

Just asking these questions to clear up organizational problems.
