Why female clown killing male?

Little bit of history. Gotten these 2 rods onyx when they were little barely any white strips. These 2 have been a pair every where they go, even after switching 3 tanks they stayed together.
2 years old now, female is about 3" and male is about 2"or less.
Today the bigger female is chasing and biting every last fin on the little guy. He is layin on his side breathing heavily.
Dont know whay the heck is going on. I dont think he'll make it.

Female clowns tend to do that sometimes. I had that happen once too, i would suggest to remove the clownfish and give him the best chance at getting better. If the male clownfish recovers I would slowly acclimate them to each other again. Not sure if that would work, but under the strange circumstances it may be your best bet.

I can't explain the "why", just that I had 3 males die in one week in 3 separate tanks. I think it was "something in the water" or a rough "time of the month" lol

FFH, female fish hormones, sperate them until the guy heals up. When you put them back together feed them well. I have a pair that looks like they're trying to kill each other but never do any damage and their fights are short and spontanious.
Good luck

Clownfish are the only fish I can't keep. Every time I have tried, adults, babies, mix, Tods, perc, ocellaris, no matter this always happens. I gave up.

Thanks for the info guys, male just went to clown heaven. He barely had any fins to swim even if he made it.
