Why no pods?

GO COLTS!!
I have a 180 that has been up and running successfully for almost 2 years now. It is a 180 DT with a 30 gallon sump and 30 gallon fuge in the basement. All the parameters have stayed good and stable for the last year or so and the fish have always seemed happy and healthy. I have been looking and can't find any pods anywhere in my system. I really want a manadrin dragonette but don't wanna starve it. I even looked last night with the lights off using a red light and saw nothing. I saw a few bristleworms but not one single pod could I find. Anyone have any advice as to why I seem to have no pod population and what I could do to remedy this? Thanks in advance!!

Got a filter sock or UV unit??
If so, don't.
Outside of that, get a magnifying glass and look at the cheato strands in the fuge.

I run 2 dragonets successfully in a 54 with a 20 g fuge.

I agree with Sk8r. Having sponges on pump intakes can hurt also. The other thing I notice in my fuge, the pods tend to love cyano and other algaes. When I look at my ball of cheato, I see alot of worms.

no socks or UV, only run skimmer fuge and phosban reactor as filtration methods. I will check the sump better. I have also noticed that my cheato doesn't grow hardly any in the sump.

You should of gotten some pods as hitch hikers on your LR on with coral frags. You can seed the tank with pods. Many of the LFS in my area sell cups of pods, I would think this would be a common practice with many LFS. I have many pods in my sump/fuge and tank and I never added any. I only see the pods in the thank at night with the lights off. Did you start your tank with LR or dry rock?

I have no problems with my socks or my uv.. The uv won't hurt much due to it catches floating bacteria. Most pods are on/in lr and depending on the flow through the uv will determine what it will stop the groth of..

Ok, let's go more basic: and btw, if you haven't gotten it yet [welcome]

;)

Tell me your parameters in as great a detail as you can.

are you referring to me?

I have thought that I don't have many pods but my Mandy is fat and happy and picks all day long. He also eats prepared foods, specifically the very small sinking pellets. I think there are more than I think in my fuge, especially in the Cheato. The filter sock should not be a problem if you turn off the return pump when you seed the main tank (I just periodically shake the cheato). The pods are not swimmers and will seek a protected area in the LR. Pods like dirty water and most of us don't. I also run GFO because I want to keep my PO4 in check.

??????ok i have no idea why you would think i was someone else??? im new here but signed up like 2 weeks ago just had not posted..

no, it's me. was confusing at first...jherrin posted, then people started talking to you...just got lost for a tad i guess. guess i'm tired. welcome!

sorry, posted earlier today but have been away from the computer for a while. My fish list is a Vlamangi tang, sailfin, foxface, 2 clownfish, flame angel, coral beauty and eilbi angel, cleaner shrimp and coral banded. Several hermit crabs and snails and a pincushion urchin. Also a pistol shrimp, but I kinda tend to forget about him as I never see him. The last time I did my tests they were as follows.
AM - 0
Nitrate - less than 5
Nitrite - 0
pH - 8.0
Temp 78
Salinity 1.026
That is all that I have tests for. Since the tank cycled the only thing that has changed is a slow decrease in the nitrates that I have seen.
Also If the welcome was for me I appreciate it but I have been a member for a couple of years at least, just mostly read instead of post.

oh and yeah I started with lots of LR, some from my initial tank and a bunch from a good friends established 90g tank that he decided to take down. That's also where the foxface and clownfish came from.
