Wife wants a red fish

Yes! She did her research and she decided red was the missing item in the tank.

Problem is the only red fish I can find is a flame hawk.

Are there any other options?

I already have flame angels, flame wrasses and red velvet wrasse. She thinks they are more orange than red.

if you have a tight fitting lid and no ornamental shrimp, look at the red nose hawkfish. tons of personality and super easy to care for!

They definitely have a unique look. I like them. Maybe because they are a hawkfish but doesn't have the open mouth live I see with the flame hawk. That open mouth and leaning to the side really isn't a good look.

Showed the options to wife and she chose flame hawk.

If my lfs can get a small popeye I will probably get one. I am concerned about its very large mouth though and being a carnivore.

and you will rarely see it since it is nocturnal

That's not true. Mine was out and about all the time. It will eat very small fish.

He was about 5 inches. Ate anything, including pellets. I lost him for unknown reasons. Just stopped eating one day and died.

does it have to be a fish

why not a fire shrimp or 3
or a real nice red lobo, trachy, or acan

i would go the coral direction, but be careful if you go the gorgonia route as most bright colored gorgonia are not photosynthetic.

even some dragons breath macro would be nice and is super good looking
