Ok.. Here's a before and after shot of a frag from a wild acro that came into Montreal around last August or September.
This is one of my favorite acros. It's pretty awesome..
The first shot is of it in my tank around October:

Now here is a shot of it from today..
This shot is exposed a little darker which seem to bring out the colours a little more..

So, here's a wild piece that really didn't change much at all..
Anybody care to guess what type of acro it is?? I have no idea.. But I love it..

Biggles you seem to have good success with your wild Aussie sps. I have as well. however it may just be me but I feel that wild figi/indo indo sps do a lot worse and have a lower success rate. Any thoughts?

Suharsonoi... Hm, could very well be..
Never thought about that...
That's part of the trick with Mari pieces, they often don't have the typical growth pattern the coral would get if it were growing in the wild..
I always think of suharsonoi as a tabling coral..
I hope it is.. One of my favorite corals.

Hi all, this will be a good thread to introduce myself & tank. tank been running around a year- my very first salty adventure. salinity 1.026. kh.11, ca. 450. mg 1280. po4 0.00-0.002.no3 0.5-1.00. running on 2 x radions pro. many sps in here, big % of it is still frags , including some wild aussies. first, few pictures. then want to show you what happened a while back: 3 months ago I have received 2 x deepwater acros and unfortunately they bag burst, so arrived half dead. managed to save them in the end- and colours are so different now to what they used to be. and 2day ( lol- not having much luck with online retailers ) received 3 x new acros. wild mint aussie with blue tips ( which is lush) a tri-colour one ( which came half brown- not as pictured) and my biggest disappointment - green dragon- which is 100% BROWN !!! ( looks like retailer had the stock pictures taken a while back...as it was brilliantly neon green. on his pictures....and had those corals a while in his system...and they browned). so not a happy bunny 2day after spending over 140 pounds . so, this is my new project I suppose- see if I can get the to colour up. little though- as it has been said here before- love deepwater acros..and from my short experience- the middle/higher parts of a tank- bring the colours in them really well- though move up needs to be done slowly. sorry- not as stunning photography here guys as some of you done . ( oh..raidons. I am in a process of lowering the intensity..used to be run at 100% now 85% and I think I still need to go lower- they are much more powerfull than I thought),looking forward to learning from your experience Kasia

and now to recent stuff. 2 x deepwaters 3 months ago. arrived half bleached. changed lots.
1) acropora granulosa before/after ..now it is getting nice and green on tips

]2)acropora walindii ...changed into purple one

and 2days arrivals ( corals been around 2h in a tank only) - that worry me wild aussie is all good, tri - colour wild acro- half brown...and my green dragon- that no matter how I try- can not see it green!!! any tips and help will be appreciated how to successfully nurse them to their glory , thank you

i like your pe as the signs to watch for on how the acros doing i think your right on

Zarfish i quite often find acros in that bleached condition for sale at my LFS and never hesitate to buy them. They color up much quicker than brown outs and you can at least have an idea of colors in most cases. As long as the tissue is on the branches and the polyps remain you can nurse an acro back to health.
Give them low light for a week or two with good flow and then begin to move them up a bit but no higher than medium light intensity. Btw any low light deep water ones will color up on the bottom which makes it easy to know where they should go. If you're keeping them in Q with sterile water i'd be inclined to put a drop or two of aminos in the water each day or some sort of nutrition.
The main thing to watch for always is PE not the color. If any have good PE during the day then you can move them up a bit if you like. If PE only at night then leave them down. No PE at all anytime - the most stressed and the ones to watch closely.
That's just how i treat most of my new wild acros, others might have a different take on things.

That looks cool Matt, i never see those smooth skinned acros in my LFS's - wish i did I'm calling it as purple, if it turns green just bin it............:smokin:

i just picked up some pink fiji table small colonys i really want to make it and keep there color .....we have a joke about the fiji pieces call them the fiji peelers there harder imo to keep then the aussie acros for some reason and do change colors almost every time

I agree, Fiji corals are probably the most unpredictable corals out there.
Brent, let's see the before shots!
Ya can't say you picked up a bunch of Fiji corals and then not show us..

Sorry I'll do some iPhone pics this is the best I can do for now with my iPhone and flashlight they were both bright pink ones hangin tough other lightening up a lot I actually just lowered the one that's loosing it's color

they look like a. hyacinthus.. tricky coral.. i find they actually love high light and high flow..

Here's a Hyacinthus mini colony and frag from Fiji I got several months ago.
They both browned out and came back very nicely.. But I had others that never coloured up and yet others that didn't make it at all..
They are both at the highest points in my tank..
They change colours slightly all the time depending in nutrients and parameters..

Another 90% of my corals are wild I like getting ones that r white and Rollin the dice in what they turn into
