Wild Onyx Clownfish. Take 3

Pair 2 is doing good. The male gets beat up here and there but nothing too traumatic. They are eating like pigs and are hooked on TDO diet

How often do you change the water with a rotifer culture?
I never got my recent culture dense enough for harvest.
Also, I noticed that the rotifers like to stick to the wall of the bucket.

I change 25% daily. Reed Mariculture recommends not harvesting for first three days when starting out with new culture.

Clownfish eggs should be hatching tonight but I don't have time to raise them. May be next batch.

That's probably a good thing. It'll give you time to get your rotifer count up.

I'm struggling to feed a large batch (probably 200+ babies) of Onyx Picassos right now. I have three 5 gallon buckets of rotifers and they're all dwindling quickly. Thanks to that chart you sent me, I introduced TDO A a lot sooner than I typically do, and most of them are eating it, so I think I can stretch my rotifer supply until I wean them off to TDO B.

Holy cow! That's a lot of babies. I plan on may be raising 30-40 at most at this time. At least one fish store already requested babies from my breeding pair. My goal is to see how many really black clowns I can get, if any. Good chance most are going to look like regular true percs with may be some extra black but daddy's colors is what I'm after. And those I'd probably keep. But when my second pair starts breeding then it will be awesome.

Speaking of my second pair, the female now lets the male sleep in the flower pot full time. She kept it all for herself the first two days but the male is now allowed to be there full time. Here's a pic of them from yesterday and I'll try to take a better one soon

So, came home early this evening and saw that the clowns laid eggs. I think that TDO definitely makes their clutches bigger. Here's why. Last week I contacted Reed Mariculture and talked about using TDO pellets in an automatic fish feeder. They said it's ok to put TDO pellets in the feeder and keep them there for a few days. I was feeding NLS pellets previously.
I decided that I would keep TDO packaging in the fridge and replenish the feeder every 3-4 days. I stopped feeding NLS pellets and actually haven't fed frozen mysis in about a week also. The result is a big clutch of eggs.

here's the big clutch

Ordered 1 million L-type rotifers for next week delivery. Hopefully I can have a decent culture up and running for at least one or two clutches.

Got the rotifers order. I tried another vendor online but got burned. It was cheaper but what a waste. From now on I'll stick with Reed Mariculture.

I am a little paranoid about my rotifers culture and test for sign of life once or twice a day. In the video below you can see some of them wheeling around inside the test tube. Not the best video quality because I just used my iPhone like I do with all of my vids
