Wild Onyx Clownfish. Take 3

The wild onyx clown is still doing great and eating like a pig. The goal is to have medication free tank by this weekend. The tank raised onyx is eating but he is still skinny. The clowns have not bonded yet. They are more in a "tolerate each other" zone right now, which is fine.

Did any of those percs come from Tong's? I picked up 2 true percs from them last week, I think one is coming down with brook cause it started showing white patches on one side of its body.

Hey buddy. Sorry to hear. Yeah the surviving clown came from them but I picked it up before it hit the store's system. I had seen many of their clowns were in poor shape but some looked ok. Best of luck and let me know if you need to bounce off some ideas about treating them.

I got a new wild caught Onyx clownfish from Solomons today. It went through a 55 min formalin bath at 2.5 ml per gallon. I measured the clown and he/she is 2.25 inches. It's either a mature male or a younger female. Time will tell when I try to pair her up with my other wild onyx clown.

I trust you when you say it, but are you 100% sure it's a wild clown? The misbar on the third stripe has me wondering. Given the size, it should've grown in already. The angle of the head in the photo makes it hard to tell if it's slightly deformed, but I'm guessing it's just the photo.

Yes, 100% wild. They had some crazy misbar regular true perculas and onyx clowns that I was very tempted to get but decided against it. All of them were wild. It's amazing how many misbar true perculas there are in the wild but not Ocellaris.
Here's a video of a true percula in the wild that has the same misbar on its tail area. It's the first pair in a purple tip magnifica.

And here's a screen shot of it

You find percula with misbars in the wild. The slightly incomplete 3rd stipe is actually quite common among PNG and SI percula. There is a picture of a SI percula missing the complete middle bar in Fautin-Allen (p. 141).

The more I look at the new clown the more I am starting to believe that she is a female. If that's the case I am leaning towards pairing her with a Picasso clown.

She would look great with a picasso mate, I know of some stores who have some nice shaped picassos right now if your interested.

I've noticed the new clown has its mouth open just like the other one. It must be a formalin bath thing because I never had it happen before especially two clowns in a row. I don't use a fish net and handle the clowns with my hands wearing gloves to avoid contact with formalin.

There she is in QT, you can see the third bar is grey while the other two are white. I think it's pretty cool. Tank is a little cloudy due to fish medication.
