Will he choke?

I woke up this morning to find a tail in my bluespot jawfishes mouth. It obviously was a purple fire fish.

Is the jawfish going to choke on his ex-buddy?

Well now that is a site to see. I hope for you your jaw fish is alright! At least it is not the other way around.

holy crap! That is an awesome picture....I am sorry to see the loss. As long as his gills can get air, it should not be that big of a problem.

He must have been hungry as heck!

He is breathing fine so it looks like he will make it.

I feed 1/4 cube frozen reef prime and 1"x1" square of sea veggies a day. If I feed more I usually end up getting a cyno outbreak. The only other fish occupants are a Mc Coskers wrasse and LM blenny.

Should I be feeding more? beween the wrasse and jawfish the two eat all the food in about two minutes.

thaT is crazy lol! I have a large newly acquired watchman and i fear he would do the same to a firefish, so, i think i am not going to risk it....

ohh, and he is just fine, fish have the fastest metabolism you can imagine, their stomach's acids can digest other fish so fast that he will sit there and as it digests he will swallow little by little. All fish in the wild constantly are in this position at some time or another, unless it has sharp spines it will never hurt it!

Never seen that yet, and I've kept jawfish and firefish in the same tank :) Crazy, but yeah, I dont think he will choke, he already has it most of the way swallowed. Probably just by late tonight or tomorrow you wont even be able to see it.

That is darn cool (although the firefish would probably not agree).

Returned home from work this evening and he finished his meal a little chubby but none the worse for wear.

That is just NUTS!! Was your firefish sick or already dead? I own a bluespot jawfish and he is a peaceful fish. But on occassion I have seen him flare out his gills and open his mouth very wide to intimidate other fish or inverts

I was thinking of getting the bluespot jawfish they have at my LFS. I guess not. I really like my purple firefish. I think I want to keep him.
