Hey fellow clownfish and anemone lovers. I just wanted to share my new find and get your best wishes and also much needed advice. He is brand new so he can go up or downhill fast.

Very nice David.
I found that setting up a surge really perked my little gigantea up. Tentacle extention and overall growth rate both increased.
I didn't have a surge device so I bought a bigger pump, hooked it to a SQWD and put 1" round outlets on the 3/4" return lines.
I puts out a lot more water than I used to have but doesn't blast the anemone at the same time.

Good luck

Best of luck.
I am setting up an tank for one and several A. percula. My research indicated that they need lots of flow and a surge system is most likely very good for them.
I hope I will be ready for one in 3 months. When the time come, I hope to get one as nice as your's.

I just went to the lfs in the area again today and they had 5 more blue ones and a green one. They wern't as big but they must be coming in more.
David

OMG...5 more blue ones and a green one? I have yet to see a Gigantea in real life...lol.

Good luck with your Gigantea. BTW, what is a surge?

David,
Is that a small blue S. haddoni near the right lower corner of you picture?
If I have a choice I would choose a smaller fish or anemone over the bigger one.
Goodluck

So the last few days have been very rocky and I am doing everything in my power to get this guy as good as when I got him. Why is he going down hill so fast in a tank in which everything else is thriving?
David

I am in the same boat with a new one that color. I also have a thriving red haddoni. I think it is a game of chance with these b/c they usually don't ship well and haddoni are easier to keep.

I'm sorry I missed this thread earlier. Best of luck with the carpet David. I have a SCWD myself in one of my gigantea tanks but to be honest I find it's more effective to have a bunch of powerheads on a wavemaker and then creatively play with things until you have an area of convergence of flows near the anemone, plus alternating directions.

55sr, a SCWD is a device you put on your sump return or closed loop and it mechanically switches output from left to right. Here's a link http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_wavemakers_scwd_squid.asp?CartId=

How is the carpet? I put one in just like that 10 days ago and the road has been rocky. He is still alive though.
