Worm's 180 build

OK back from NC. 10 yo with gmom for the summer. Now.... TIME to kick in higher gear.

Started 3 days of lights out. Finish knocking this GHA out.

The ATS will be eating away at all the nutrients.

Lets see how that does for 3 days.

Zero Nilch Nada...

Been feeding and all. I need to do W/C and all still. argh... the boys still at home have kept me slammed. ohh and work too.

LOL.

OK as many read/saw I got a ATS (algae turf scrubber)

Well... I was bad!!!

I did not clean it for 4 weeks.

Here are the pictures:

All in all it was like 18+ oz of algae. It had grown from GHA to GSA (green string algae) The algae in the tank has subsided some, now that I have cleaned it out I bet it really takes off and eats the nutrients.

Ideas? Thoughts? Yeah I will clean it once a week now.

Once it kicks in you have to clean every seven to ten days. Make sure the slit stays clean and doesn't clog up or you will be having problems down the road.

Yeah you are telling me.

I took that video, I was talking to you about.

I am d/ling it now from the camera then I have to u/l to youtube.

OK here is a walk through.

I am u/l two more of the ritteri eating, so those will be up when ever it is done.

Great explanation of your setup and equipment. You called your drain section the return section but i know you were in the moment. Cant wait to see that ritteri eating video.

So... how is your build coming along??

Slowly, but progress is being made. I should get a lot done this week like finishing up the stand for the tanks. If work and everything else doesn't get in the way this week, I'm hoping to have everything in place and work on the plumbing.

Looks like that turf scrubber is doing you right. Enjoyed the video.

HAHA... Thanks... I was thinking ahead the entire video. LOL...

I need to script it I guess. "Uhhh water in...." "Water out".... "Fishies part" "Where the clown sleeps" "Sticky floaty thing"

Yea it is kicking butt and taking algae. LOL...

OK Just to keep this in my build thread too...:

OK well it is that time of year again.

Just today we had a LARGE storm cell run through our area.

As I was posting a message on here my son called me to say we did not have power for the last 45 or so minutes.

I left a work and drove in the rain at 25mph the whole way.

The good thing is he took the generator from the garage and moved it out back, where we run it.

Yes it is that time of year again here on the east coast. Not only for local storms but for hurricanes.

Here is a picture after I plugged everything back in, the light at the bottom is my flashlight, yes.

I was already prepared anyway, from the hurricane that blew up the coast as a large depression.

Three hours later the power came back on.

A few reminders for those in storm prone, frequent power outage, summer heat brown out areas:

  • Have a layout/directions set for those at home to plugin / turn on generator, when you are not right there.
  • CLEARLY label your cables so you know which ones to pull in the dark with a flash light.
  • Make sure you to put your plugs OFF the floor/ground to prevent any water spills/overflows causing any issues, tripping over, too.
  • Place your generator in a position AWAY from any air intakes or open windows.
  • Have ICE, in a bag, in case you need to put it in the sump to cool the tank down slowly, this will help keep it cold in the freezer too. Saltwater/RODI would be best in case you have a bag break.

  • MOST OF ALL, which I am doing tomorrow, order the UPS/Battery that you promised your self you would do 2 months ago.
Just a friendly reminder, reef safely and enjoy the rest of your day.

I think I will revisit and design a comprehensive/better checklist for power outages, for both hot and cold temperature. One that combines a few of the threads we already have here.

Storm - 0 generator - 2 (yeah last year same thing)
