Worst luck with Acans Xp

I glue animals to rocks
Seems like I have had pretty good luck with most corals... However it seems every time I try an Acan, stuff happens... I put this last one on my frag rack until I decided on a final home. This morning I walk by the tank to see the acan next to it digesting my new frag. Sps are sooo much easier.

This is what it looks like 12 hours later. I'm not a happy camper :( lol

For kicks

I haven't had much great experience with acans either. It is funny how most people say SPS is harder to keep, yet I don't seem to have any problems with them.

They were about two inches apart and the other one still managed to reach it. It looked like spider man made a mess lol. Should have turned on my lights and took a pic of it eaing the other.

Yes, acans can be brutal. IME especially the subechinata. I have one that extends the white digestive mesenterial filaments whenever something grows within an inch of two of it, and it is always the winner. It ate a nice acan lord I had, was really ticked off.

A. echinata are nasty little critters with a reach much farther than you would think. I used to keep one in my frag tank and move it around to kill of Anthelia as it popped up on the rack.

All my echinatas are banished to the corner of my tank where they can't harm anything. Nasty things they are, I've even heard of echinatas stinging other echinatas. Lords you can keep together without a problem.

Hi, its been awhile, still have your stuff and will bring it to the next meeting.
I have 3 acans-2 of orange coloring and one with bluish. They are still small. You are welcome to come by and see
if you would like some when they are bigger. you get ro frag!:celeb3:
Hope all is well. Charlene

i dont get it, i have difficulties keeping sps but i can keep acans..:spin2:
just some bad luck? i see in the other pic that you have an acan up on the rock.

One year in and I have had no problems with sps so far (fingers crossed) and acans are beautiful, but I won't keep any lps in my system. But that's jus me:)

Yea back luck or something. Out of the the 7 I've tried 3 are still in my tank. Sps I have jeez like 21 types and only lost two. The one down on the rock isn't very colored up but it's still hanging in there, I my ditch the acan echi and bring that one up to a rack.

The apple is so beautiful! I bet it's awesome to see it in motion
Right, sooo tempting.

I just took my 1st dive into SPS's, I've kept Acan's in the past, and have 2 frags in my tank now. (& 1 micromussa ) they look ok, but not thriving how I want them to. - meh time will tell...

maybe its the hallides ? thats why ur sps grow like crazy ,no? just a thought . I can keep both but the sps dont grow fast . 6xt-5s . i can grow a mean monti cap though , i bet u can too . maybe ur alk is too high for the lps and the sps love it ?

Really don't think it's the lights. Alk is 7, but that's because I maintain a pretty low nutrient tank. Not the most habitable for lps but I have a few. Target feeding them is pretty much a must in my tank. Most of the time it was something stupid like one eating the other, one getting nocked off a rack by a fish, another didn't like getting covered w sand on the bottom of my tank etc... Gotta be a curse or something stupid lol.

Thanks for all the compliments on the apple. I love it. It's fun to watch and it has some great color. much cooler than my other cuke.
