Would like a clam, but questions ...

im basing my opinion on experience:) and im trying to make sure that people have good experiences with clams not kill them until they figure something out.if you such a proponent of PC's for clams then why do you have MH on your tank?
Clams aren't corals they feed differently, they use there zoox differently and they don't have the adaptive ability that corals have.

you still never told me where you get your info from??????

im sorry that I have(and others)a different opinion then you!

Thanks,Have a nice day

Hey budy, no need for you to start a public cry.
Different things works differently for other people, you never even mentioned you kept clams under pcs all you said was "in my opinion they need halide", real scientific data there. My info came from Experience of keeping these clams under PCs as well as others who have with success.

MH's are recomended for clams, read about clams and it's more like required. The fact that some people have kept them under pc lighting, doesn't mean that it is the right way to go, it's not.
Proper lighting and water quality and you're good to go with clams. I don't believe in green water(dt's) either.

why should I mention it if I don't recommend it.
where is your scientific data,I've asked you twice for it,what's the deal?it sounds like you are the one starting a "public cry"

Here is an experiment, that was suggested to me that will help you pick a spot for a clam.

Get a cheap acropora frag, place it the area you would like to put the clam and watch it. If it doesn't do well a clam won't either.

I have heard that many people have had luck keeping and even breeding clams under flourescent lighting. I have never tried.

The PC light may be too spread out to supply a clam with enough light at any one point.

MH lights are a point source which allows them to focus more light on a particular area.

If you are going to get a clam I would start with a deresa or a squamosa. They are quite striking and tend to be hardier. I have seen one that was kept for several years under PC lighting.

Please read up on their dietary needs and calcium/KH requirements. This is probably more critical to their health than the type of light you supply.

I did that experiment, got this purple tip acro frag.

pg 370 The Reef Aquarium v1 (Sprung and Delbeek)

Under the section about aquarium care for crocea:

"...we have kept these clams for several years under fluorescent lighting, they were kept fairly close to the surface."

This was written before PC and T5s were available, and they are referring HO or VHO

clams and corals are not exactly the same do that experiment wont' work well.

Obviously they are not.

Please explain what you mean. Feel free to be as specific as you want.
