Cell phone 911 in the Chicago area now works like this:
Dial 911....Call takers pick up call, computer screen displays block you are located on...1200 to 1259 S. Indiana for example...
They get your information and then send the info to the dispatcher who contacts the police officers out in the field.
I'm sure there are some hitches in reality, but for the most part we haven't had too many complaints. In 9 days the call takers answered 275 in-coming calls for police service and this for an area that is just 6 blocks wide and 4 blocks long. Imagine how many calls get answered city wide in a day....
Comcast is expensive and my connection is so iffy. I go months with no problem and than BAM...losing the connection every single day. I do call and receive credit but it's still a hassle. Last service guy was a prince...came while the problem was still in effect and traced the problem like 8 blocks away...just a bunch of little things that snowballed until they got to our block...last in line....
And BOTR thanks for all your hard work...we know that the guys getting cold and dirty and missing meals and family time have no say in company policy. That's reserved for the head honchos giving themselves HUGE BONUSES AND GOLDEN PARACHUTES and back room deals....thank heaven my retirement is about 9 months away....not like I'm counting.
