Hey everyone,

So I just got back from my LFS. I ended up getting some new SPS, a toadstool, some more palys, and this wrasse.

The LFS had it labeled as a Christmas Wrasse, but I googled it and cant find anything definitive.

Also, for whatever this wrasse is, does he need any special treatment or food? Does he sleep in a mucous cocoon or sleep in the sand?

Live aquaria.com sells Christmas wrasses under their none reef safe section. But says they get 5inches and are peaceful. Their picture of one looks kinda Similar to your but has some different markings. Which yours might be a female with the eye spots if I read their info correctly.

Not reef safe because it might eat shrimp or feather dusters.

Not a fish I'd expert.

Halichoeres biocellatus, Red lined wrasse

Sleeps in the sand. Reef safe with some caution; completely coral safe.

May occasionally go after a snail or hermit if the opportunity presents itself. Could also target feather dusters.
