WTT: 120g for RR

i have an older 120 that is tempered. i would like to trade this for a used (or new, new is good) RR 120. if someone has a 120 not being used and could jsut trade me that would be great. it is in great condition and includes an iron stand. all i need from you is the tank.

i know its alot to ask for someone to trade a RR for a non-RR but i would really like to be that much close to getting the ball rolling on this project.

LMK!

P.S. i can get pictures for people that are truly interested.

am i crazy for thinking this will happen?

Sorry, but I gotta call the [chimp] on this one:lol:

why even try to trade if you cant afford the nano cube, you would be tempted to set it up

good call. im getting a job tuesday though (hopefully). basically this was to start gathering interest. id really like to get a RR tank. as long as i can get a RR tank thats 5' long im happy. (my stand is 5' long). once i get a job i can even throw in money to balance out the trade thats all. at least im getting responses now! even if i am crazy! i think SOMEONE will eventually be like hey this SW tank is too much work. ill just make it FW. thats when i step in and say HEY! let me have your RR. get it? thats the plan anyway.

wewerehere, the reefers here on the SLASH forum are a nice bunch and will bend over backwards to help someone, but asking for free coral and then practically asking for a significant deal on a tank is like looking a gift horse in the mouth :(

I'm glad to hear that you're getting a job, hopefully then you'll be able to get some super nice stuff to put in your nano.

about that free stuff thingy. i stopped wanting to do that... after i got the torch i realized how much less i worked for it... it wasnt as exciting. and the whole reason i posted this was just out of interest to see if anyone was that desperate to get rid of there tank. im not expecting anyone to grudgingly hand it over or even make the slightest donation. just generating interest.

It is where you have someone else sell something for you but they take a percentage.

Ex.

120 gallon tank and stand = $220.
If someone is willing to sell it on consignment and find a buyer and they want 10% of the sale you would get $200 and they would get $20.

Get it ?

Hey hear's an Idea, why don't you just post a thread like:

Someone give me a FREE tank all setup and stuff???

Why anyone would think someone would trade them a RR tank for a NON-RR is baffling at best. It is JMO but Nanook you should close this thread.

My only question and don't get me wrong, you won't know something till you lay it out there. But I remember reading a thread of someone else asking a trade for a 75g empty for a 24g established and you were quick to jump him on it. That's the only reason why I'm putting my 2 cents in. I've asked for outrageous favors too, and in my case, I got what I asked for, like chelsey said we do anything possible within our means to help. But on the fip side of the coin I didn't bash someone on another thread for asking a similar favor. Please don't take this the wrong way, just take it as learning limits.

My advice to you is to focus on your nano-cube. You have the beginnings of a very nice tank that will be easy to care for and will have minimal additional cost. You can focus on trading livestock and taking advantage of the coral donation program instead of coming up with schemes to fund your next equipment purchase. A 120 will be very expensive to set up properly and, although I think SLASH people might be the most helpful/generous people on the planet :), they also are more willing to help people who show dedication to their tank and have patience with the hobby. I know that's how I feel.

If you take that route, you can start depositing some of those new paychecks you'll be getting in a savings account instead of dumping them into your tank.

By the way, I started with a 12G nano and had it running over a year before I put water in my next tank.

There is a lot you can learn from that nano. Stick with it.

The tank is often the cheapest part of getting things set up. Ona 120 your going to spend $40 bucks just on salt and that if you have an RO/DI. Then you need a skimmer and pumps and lights.
Rock will set you back a couple of hundred bucks.

I understand what you were asking for as its worth a shot to see if you could get someone to trade you straight up for a RR. I dont think you meant to come across as being a pest asking for handouts.

I may be the worst person to comment here as I would always be the first to take something that someone was offering for free, especially if I can use it. When I have picked up free stuff I always try to offer something. Some frags or some cash.

I started with a 12g nano. Keep going on it. A larger tank wont mean anything if you dont have the cash to fill it up.

yeah, I spent about 2000$ AFTER the tank, just to see it empty so far. I went from a 55g to a 125g. Not to mention water volume. More tank, more problems. In a larger system it does take longer for water quality to dwindle but, I am also finding that it takes a lot longer to solve some of the problems too.
