I personally, as I hope everyone here would, only buy corals that are listed as captive-raised.
I realize that an onlie retailer may very well lie about it.

However, if the website offers wild frags for sale I will not buy from them at all. Not their wild, not their captive raised, not their drygoods.
I will not have my money knowingly contribute to the destruction of the Reef.

Well, SeanT, I hate to bring this up, but where do you think www.reefermadness.us gets most of it's corals and live rock? They have ONE category for aquacultured and the rest are WILD collected.

In addition, www.marinedepotlive.com gets it's corals from the wild.

www.premiumaquatics.com also gets wild colonies.

www.reefscience.com gets wild colonies.

Dr Mac gets wild colonies.

In fact, as far as I can tell, just about every coral retailer that I can think of sells some portion of wild colonies.

At this point, I'd like to know who doesn't.

seant please add the rest of the comments including your vulgarity(oh ya RC wont let you talk like that so you cant add that) & the CURRENT conversation between Brian & I on my methods that he asked me to share more detail on of my quarantine system that he was unaware of

or dont bother cause Im sure none but you care thats why you are trying to strong arm me this way

whatever...more corals for the rest of us

btw 17 seadwelling corals are alive & healthy looking a 100% survival rate thanks to sea dwelling.

the 2 of 7 that rtn'd in shipping were handled by a lfs before being aquired by me a few weeks ago.(the 5 that were ok)

By simply clicking on RC we all support wild collected to some degree, none of us have clean hands, but there are different degrees of responsibility IMO. Each time we watch a program on TV that gets part of its revenue from Cruise Lines, SUVs etc..., we have said in a way that its ok to destroy the reefs of the world.
I used to think that captive raised frags was the best way to protect the worlds reefs, but I don't any longer.
I believe that the only way to protect them in the long run is to give ownership, and an incentive to the native peoples. Currently the biggest theat to the reefs comes from global warming, pollution, and to a lesser degree blast fishing. If the native peoples had an incentive (real living wages) for their reefs, then they might be able to protect them, or at least would have more motivation to speak up about there destruction. That $50 coral or fish that we purchase at the LFS probably made the collector about $.50, this IMO needs to change if we wish to see any real protection.
There is no way that I can believe the worlds reefs can't be farmed in the same manner as any other natural resource. The problem as I see it is, even if farmed in a responsible manner, the industrialized nations will continue along their reef killing path until it is too late.

I support your business 100%. The bottom line is everything starts some where. Just ignore him. I found that he eats off this stuff. Really shows his true colors and level of maturity. I have learned just to ignore him.
Keep your chin up Eddie

No problem, I was not in the nc frag email chain. I just read them. It was upsetting to log on and see 45 emails about something that was as silly as that. Im sure we will meet soon. I would like to get some more snails in the future and i know my friend wanted some too. Well its about 10:30 pacific coast time. Im tired and need some sleep.

hmm quite a post lol I think If the guy gets some wild corals and starts fragin them and multiplying them for sale that is good for the wild reef isnt it ??? as long as he doesnt just buy and chop buy and chop after all the first corals to be put in reef tanks didnt just apear by some form of magic no they came from a reef as all our corals did wether it be 2rd generation or 10th lol

BTW I saved your link and will check your sight from time to time I wish you luck and I hope you always try to help the wild reefs and the hobby as a whole

thanks...I just posted new pics of our 180.our camera is very bad for taking coral pics so we have to buy a better one before actually posting pics of corals forsale.

like I mentioned alot in the frag discussion group was left out.my very first words in the first quote of me for one.here they are

"I hate to debate this knowing some who are veiwing"

& about 60% of the rest of the frag group discussion.

Id send it to any who want to read more via email

on another note our business registration has us set up to begin business July 1st so keep a eye out we should have lots of corals available (some handpicked for me & some hand picked by me)

we also have decided to sell drygoods so I have alot more work to do on our site.

I was at Eddie's place yesterday. Let me say first of all that his display tank is one of the healthiest looking tanks I've ever seen. The fish and corals are well cared for and their appearance shows it. After being in reefs for over 3 years, I'd have to say that Eddie knows what he's doing. Also, after reading the emails on the NC Frag Board, I'd have to say that most of SeanT's comments were extremely childish, vulgar, immature, and unfounded. Through the verbal bashing, Eddie remained an adult throuhg it. I'm looking forward to visiting his place when the coral farm is finished. Eddie and I traded some frags. He is an extremely nice and generous man. Eddie, I look forward to doing business/trading with you in the future, and so do my in-laws.
