Xavier's 120 Gallon Journal

2/14/12 Update:

Worked on my ATS today.
Went to home depot for some plumbing parts and wandered over to the lighting section. They had some cool $1 dollar CFL bulbs that were 6500k. So I picked 4 up. Two for the ATS and two for around the house. I also found another clamp light, so for 11 bucks, I had my second light.

These ones are only 13 watts, and I know I need a lot more on my scrubber, but I wanted to see if the algae liked this spectrum the same as the previous bulb.

Wow that looks better, the ~5000k CFL's really seem brighter than the lower color temp ones. How many square inches is your scrubber? If the math in the ATS Basics thread is right, you should be able to handle massive feeding, once the scrubber has reached maturity.

Those bulbs are rated at 6500k. The ones that are 26 watts that I wanted were out of stock. So until I make another home depot run, these will have to do.

I dont remember exactly, but it is massive! I am only utilitizing the top portion as a real scrubber, the bottom half I would say is more to direct the water smoothly into the sump to minimize noise. Although it does grow some algae from light spillage

2/16/12-2/19/12 Update:

I have been busy tearing down the 29g in my room to make room for the new 50g cube I bought. This required that I take out the rock. I decided that the left side of my 120 needed to be added to, and redesigned a little to allow for more coral placement options. Took about 3 hours and now I am able to get most of the corals off of the sandbed.

Went to Capistrano Reef and picked up a male and female red scooter blenny in hopes of having a pair someday soon. I also picked up an "assorted wrasse" for 22.99. He is pretty cool, but I am not big on wrasses so I dont know the name.

Wrasse didn't make it a full 24 hours :( found his mutilated body wrapped around my green slimers, so I think he was eaten postmortem.

Started feeding oyster feast; looks like a great product and my corals are showing excellent reactions to the feedings

I got a bunch of new mushrooms and some new zoas. I will try to get some pics up. I also picked up two acan frags to try and save that didnt make it, and I got this guy from tongs for 5 bucks (haggling required) but I knew it wouldn't have made it another day or two in their tank, and I am a sucker for dying corals.

Nice pick up!

I always like bringing stuff back from near death too... my scoly (pictured below) used to be in just as bad of shape. As you can see, it's nice and healthy now after about 2 years or so of nursing it back to health, and still looking better everyday :D

Thats awesome Chad! I hope mine can make that great of a recovery! I have been feeding it every other day with a mix of oyster eggs, mysis (hasnt taken one yet), phyto, and cyclopeeze
