Xavier's 120 Gallon Journal

Me and you are the exact opposite lol, I can't keep coral alive for the life of me, but my fish survive EVERYTHING.. i don't get it /:

How are your results with the use of an ATS system? I built one for a frag tank about a year ago, and had good results. I am in the process of designing one for my current display. Anything you have learned from it?

Thanks, and your tanks looking great!

I don't know what's going on either. I have accepted the huge die off as something that I had no control over, except maybe QTing but who knows.. The other fish are a mystery, I'm thinking something in the tank must be eating them

thanks for the compliment, as far as the ATS, I have definitely noticed results. I dont get any type of algae in the tank anymore except ulva (which is growing out of no where) and some film on the glass which is off and on. Sometimes I dont have to clean it for days, other times twice a day to keep it clean. Still dont know why that is. I have learned that you dont need the most expensive filtration, or to add tons of chemicals to your tank to keep the phosphate, nitrate, and nitrite levels at bay, and that we still have a LOT to learn in the hobby

Today was a fun tank day! Didnt have to be at work until 6, so I went to MAX (but heard it was lame so I didnt pay the admission). Then I went to three different stores around there and by my house. Picked up a female leopard wrasse, a magenta psudochromis which looks like it may have been a terrible choice as he started fighting my melenarus seconds after introduction, and I got the white gorgonian that I have been looking at for weeks, if not months.
Leopard wrasse dove right into the sand, psudochromis is a jerk, and the gorgonian had polyp extension within 5 minutes which I havent seen in the store for a week or two

Just wanted to share a pic of my gorgonian with almost full polyp extension! Looking happy if I must say so myself.

Sent that pic to my friend (actually all of my friends) who owns my LFS and he sent me this back and offered me a frag! Super duper excited to get this sometime this week

Forgot to post harvest pics. it was the biggest yet!
Today I got a tubastrea from Mikey that I am going to try to rescue, as well as an unknown sps frag. Then I was given an awesome green and purple favia colony from a guy who I helped move a 200 gallon tank.

Thanks for the compliment. I like to record everything that happens so when I want to figure out why something happened, I have records of changes and dates. Some people call it science haa

Forgot to update. I got a dendro and a new tubastrea recovery project.

Also, the pink coral (lobo?) didnt make it. :( It was looking great and then died for unknown reasons within a day.

I moved all of the nonphotosythetic corals over to the 50g azoox tank, and freed up some sandbed room, which was much needed.
Everything looks pretty healthy.

Today's addition
Zebrasoma desjardini (Desjardini Sailfin tang)

He is getting along with the smaller regular sailfin so far. But still shy so we will see how it goes

The new sailfin ate for the first time today! It was getting scary thin, and wouldnt eat nori or anything that I could see. Looks like he decided to eat and live rather than hide and die

Xavior this is chris conley younger brother. All my zoas wont open and i just baught a $40 zoa. Im pretty sure my tank has nudis so I was wondering If i could borrow some iodine. Thanks.

here is my big guy. Absolutely demolished my sponge population, which I wasn't thrilled about, but whatever, he is really cool so I will allow it.
