Yellow Gigantea

IMO, If its bright yellow then its most likely bleached green. creamy yellow the tan.

Can you get a picture and post it? would be easier to judge:)

I would not mind trying a green, but not a brown/tan gig.

Getting one of ANY color to live, let alone thrive is difficult. You get a brown or tan one to make it, fully recovered and settled, you will have NO trouble finding a home for it.

My uncle had a brown one years ago. It was definately a center piece. When healthy, color is what one notices second.

Agree with a lot of this.. more than likely it's just green and whatever color it is there are no shortages of good homes for it...

We have a 3 week of very neon green Gigantea in our tank, and I will be curious to see how it looks in six months. Either way, beautiful animals!

I asked seller if he could get a pic from his wholeseller.
The price is blue $225 and yellow $110
That is why I am thinking the yellow is just a tan/cream color.

There is also a shade of yellow that is a cross between tan and gold that is called "Lemon Drop". Clever marketing...probably; but if it keeps the yellowish/gold color I would imagine it would look pretty nice when fully acclimated.

$110 isn't a bad price for the yellow. If it turns out to be a green gig that would make it an even better deal. I'd roll the dice on that deal. Just have the QT ready to go and you will probably be very happy in the end.

I feel like it's rolling the dice on just trying a gig. I would hate to order the yellow, and it turns out to be tan, or brown. I have only room for one gig.
My tank is a BB with high flow, and it may be suitable only for a ritteri or gig.
I am still thinking about it though.

Here is my "yellow" Gigantea. It is a beauty (more brown than yellow)

The "yellow" gigs that come in are usually very bleached. I have had no luck with them and don't know of many people who have. That is one of the reasons you can't really get a straight answer as to what color they are when they get their zooxanthellae back. Very few ever make it back.

What type of lighting do you have? The reason I ask is because if it turns out to be a tan gig, under LEDs it could change to a mauve color. My gig looked tan under halides but when I switched to LEDs it changed to a more pleasing color. See photo to the left.

I have a feeling you haven't shopped for a gig. I don't think you would call any gig "just a tan/cream color" since as others have mentioned, all gigs are rare, particularly healthy ones. I would never purchase a gig off a list or sight unseen, not to say that you would, but if you have your heart set on a particular color, ask for LFS to order the color you want. If you want green, the wholesale list should say green.

I run 400w 20k radiums.
I have never seen a gig in person. I see liveaquaria only list tan color.
I do not have a set color. I think a nice green would be my favorite.
I have looked and searched for gigs. They do seem to be very rare. I am sure that is good too given their sucess in reef aquariums.

I talked to an online vendor that goes to the wholeseller on Mondays, and he is going to check on one for me. He says they are common there. If there is a healthy gig I want it.

Minh,

how big is the yellow/brown gig? Do you have a pic showing placement of gig?
My yellow/tan Gigantea is about 12-14 inches. It is in a 65 g tank with :worried: 5 other anemones. Two Malu, two Maxi Tapetum carpets and another Gigantea. The have been together since about 9/2012 and are doing well. I used to have several BTA in there but removed them and sold all the BTA.

Here is a FTS of the 65 g tank. Sorry for such a dirty tank. It is in need of glass clean. Light by 2X250 W DE MH 10,000K bulbs

Here is our green gigantea we picked up 3.5 weeks ago now... spent five days in QT, observed no issues, tight mouth, and now been in DT for 3 weeks.. Here is it with the tentacles growing larger week by week and spitting out a snail snack in this picture..

This is probably one of the brightest and healthier looking (in terms of zoox presence) I have ever seen.. Can't wait to see this guy in six months.
