Yellow H. magnifica

Thanks James.

Update: 3/11/2010
Call me greedy but I got another Magnifica from a LFS here in Corpus, Aquarium Masters, so I got three Magnifica in this tank now. It is a mustard color anemone with purple-pink tentacle tips. There is a halo of hot pink color of the tentacle tips that cannot be capture by camera, so picture just does not do it justice. I got it into the tank for about three weeks at this time. I also got better control of the algae in the tank.
Here are recent pictures of the anemones.

wild :) Nice one. Minh, looks to me that maxy sits to close to anemone. How does its mantle reacts to tentacles touching?

Is that a pair of Grammas in there? If so how did you pair them.I know a little off topic but just didnt know!

Thanks!

Jadran and Gary,
It is a Crocea that I got for many years. It was 1 inch when I got it from a LFS (ORA I think). Now it is pushing 5 inches (I just look at it again and estimate it). The scuttles grew in aquarium thus do not worn away like in the wild. I have had many Crocea with scuttes like that. It is a Crocea not Maxima or Squamosa.
The mantels are not injur with the Magnifica touch. However, with three anemones on this rock, I will need to move the clam soon. It just get shaded. The rock is about 1.5 foot by 1+ foot. There are plenty of spaces for the anemones but not with the clam on it too. The clam just don't get enough light.

clowns101,
Royal Gramma live in harem with one male and multiple females. The most dominate will turn male and the rest stays as females. If you put two males together they will fight to the death. I keep harem of Royal Gramma all the time. By themselves, the RG will turn into male rather quickly (like in 7 days or so IMO). Anyway, even at small size, if live by themself for any lenght of time, when put together they will fight to the death. This is why they have the nasty reputation, and the believe that they live as singleton which is prevalent in the reefkeeping community.
To set up a harem, you need to buy the RG as soon as they come to the LFS. These fish will still be females and if you put a group of them together, they will form a natural harem in your tank. If they stay by themself at the LFS, you should not put them togeter. Rather, have them order these fish for you and quarantine them as a group.

Keep them happy and a group of three to five will breed in your aquarium.

Thats what I though but I was told by a store locally that I would have to sex the fish by looking at color patterns and how the fishes acted when they were alone and just a bunch of crap!

What would happen if I ordered like 6 of them from DFS???Would that work!

Sorry for the questions!Im just looking for a new fish to breed other than clownfish, damsels, and gobies!

Thanks!

I always got them from LFS. They are common and in expensive. I told them to put them together on arrival.

I didnt know that. Always thought of worn scuttles as croceas dead giveaway. Do we know why that occurs in nature ( and than only to croceas) and not in aquarium?

Are you running any type of UV through your tank? I have had some issues with mult Mags giving some sort of sickness/bacteria to one other.

Awesome nems. How did you get them all on that rock and to stay there?

Also the guy with the purple Mag is that a carpet right next to it? Don't they sting each other?

Do you still have the mandarins? If so, I am interested in how are they doing? I am thinking about setting up a seperate small mandarine tank with large shells for substrate similar to yours. Are they still in the same tank or did you move them?

Payton

My greed cost me dearly. The purple tipped Magnifica was sick. It died then my other two healthy anemones caught what ever the new anemone got and died also over the the next 4 weeks, I lost both of my Magnifica.
It took me so long to finally got these healthy anemones, it was devastating to loose them after 2 years. So end this sad thread. Thanks everybody
