Im running 4 VHO lights and it resides about 6 inches from the top of the tank. any help? sorry i have no picks for you

I wish I knew more about this coral but I don't. Maybe this bump will help. Pictures always help. I probably would look at your water parameters and flow. If you could post those it may help.

Good luck with the coral.

Regards,

Pat

Tank parameters

alk is at 6.4, nitrates are at 15, nit 0, amo 0, ph 8.2, salinity 1.25, phos 0. i don't have a calc check "yet" temp is at 80 both day and night. there is a lot of flow everywhere in my tank in have a maxijet 1200 and marineland 350 on one side of the tank, on the other i have a mag350 and a rio 1400 from the sump. and a backpak 2 skimmer. my lights are on from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

Yellow turbinaria under VHOs, will typically get darker with only bright yellow on the edges and the polyp. To get the entire coral to stay the brighter color typically requires more intense light.

I currently have mine under VHOs and over the 5+ years I've had it under several different lights.

So unless I misunderstand your question. They typically do get brown out except where I noted.

I forgot to mention that all this is in a 55 gallon. also i've been adding seachem reef builder for the last couple of days and the alk is up to 7.7. the brown spots are only around the polyp area and the edge area. at first i thought it was ditrus build-up but it would not blow off.
